E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Mine has been on for awhile now, but temp gauge reads fine. Any ideas what could cause this? Thinking maybe cap on resevoir

That happened to me before as well, and it turned out that the sensor in the coolant tank was broken.

+1 a pretty common problem as I understand it.

it should...but you may have to splice the connector. This is a real common issue and the part sells on Ebay for around 15.00. |

I would test the sensor first. Just pull it out put an ohm meter on it and see it the circuit closes . I thought mine was bad but it was the connector.

if you haven't replaced the sensor just replace its like 36 bucks from the dealership. When my light started coming on *even though it was full of coolant* it was the sensor in the coolant tank. Pulled mine out and the white looking piece at the bottom of the sensor was pretty much dark brown *fluid was green though* I figured it was probably the original sensor.

The sensor is a fluid level sensor. It does not have anything to do with temperature.
Roger on the ohms check for good/bad. Wires do break as it is in a location that gets bumped/disturbed. |
