a few ergonomics questions re: X3 with 6spd
thinking about an X3...still some questions that i forgot to address during test driving...
1. can the driver's cup holder hold a cup of coffee and still allow you to shift without it getting in the way? 2. can the middle headrest in back be removed? 3. what is this i hear about some people hitting their knees while driving? where? thanks |

The center rear headrest is fixed and part of the fold down armrest. It cannot be adjusted or removed.
Some people complain that the brake and throttle are too close to each other, but your choice of shoes will affect your results. Others complain that their right leg might rub against the center tunnel. Again, your results may vary. |

A small cup of coffee will not get in the way of your shifting. A big one will but it is still manageable for a short time. I find myself actually using the passenger's cup holder for tall items. This ergonomic flaw in the 6 manual's cabin design is minimally unfortunate. The advantages of the manual wildly out weigh such things.

I have a manual and don't have any issues with the cup holder. I'm 6'9" and don't hit my knees either. I did notice the issue with the pedals on the first few days but it's no longer a problem.
The manual transmission is awesome, I can't imagine the car with an automatic. |

The only interference I have noted with the cup holder is when one of my kids/grandkids riding in the front seat gets one of the humungous drinks in the center cup holder and then it is not really much of a problem. Mostly because mein frau relegates them to the rear seats anyway.

do the heated seats heat the seat and the back, or just the seat?

The armrest can be folded down.
