Question Black Plastic center piece of lower rear bumper fell off!

Hello everyone,
I have had my new 07 X3 for about a month and yesterday I noticed that the lower center piece of the rear bumper where it is black plastic is gone and there is a nice maybe 10 inch long piece of the lower bumper missing. It must have been a cut out piece that gets removed if you choose to install the trailer hitch. I must have driven over a bump or pot hole or something and the darn thing was rattled out. I have only driven it on paved roads and highways, no snow or off road trials, yet. I am going to bring it into the local BMW Centre, Holtz BMW, In Rochester NY and see if they can replace that black plastic piece. It looks pretty bad without it there. Anyone else that owns an 07 X3 w/o a sport package have this issue?

You lost the cover for the factory hitch. It is held in place by a couple of metal clips and last time I checked (for my 2006) it was close to $30 so it is not terribly expensive. But it should have held on pretty tight so maybe someone gave you a gentle "tab" in that area and disengaged the clips?

Good Luck at the dealer!

Regards,

Thanks for the feedback. I went to the local BMW Centre and they ordered me a new black plastic piece for the rear bumper. It was the cap for the trailer hitch. I asked about a BMW hitch for the 07 X3 and it runs about 800 dollars they said. They replace the entire rear bumper with a trailer kit. It is a good amount of work I guess. My wife gets a new car in Feb Mar of 08 and she wants a Ford Escape, we will get that one with w a tow package on it.
