i'd rather have an E39 M5 with the E60 M5 engine...bigger, would be a tad bit slower than the 3 series but did I mention its the best looking 5 series to date? That is definitely a wicked project though, and to think that they are taking orders from customers to do the project on a larger scale! Incredible! Can't wait till they fit that supercharger to one of these things..750rwhp on a 3 series!!

hehe it's my favorite sport sedan as well, nothing even comes close. People like to compare the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG which is absolutely faster, but it doesn't even come in a 6 speed and doesn't look as good either Have you driven an E39? It's more fun than it looks man, my uncle has one in that midnight blue color that looks black but it really a dark metallic blue...so sexxxyyy

That M3 is sick!!

I could buy an E39 M5 right now if I wanted to, but I'm pretty much sick of sedans

Heres a nice one though: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/550959234clUvVp

All that extra horsepower doesn't mean a faster lap time. The car will have to brake earlier at the end of straights, the brakes will overheat more leading to brake fade, the car will have pretty much the same cornering speed. You just couldn't use all that power on a twisty track or one with high speed corners because the CSL already has enough power to accelerate the car to the grip limit in cornering and optimal apex speeds.

But in response to your question, yes I would change my 1.8 litre E36 for that

Everyone should change whatever E36 they have got for that!

I would be willing to bet the cost of either M3 w/ M5 conversion, or an M5 that every part of those cars would be upgraded to cope with the huge increase in power.

IF the only thing they changed was the engine, that is *possibly* true, but i am sure they changed the brakes as well.

Plus the extra power and straight line speed would make up for any extra braking needed and so i reckon it would be faster

Its too rough to be driven daily. Hopefully the 135i will live up to my expectations and with a load-through trunk it's more versatile. Z4 has absolutely no storage space, but it is quite a blast to drive. Besides, I plan on installing a JBS1 or 2.. good for 35-45 rwhp for under $400

I tried it on a racing sim with an M3, only 4 seconds faster on the Nordschleife with 493 HP (what the Hartge 5 litre V8 M3 had) versus 360 HP (standard CSL). I think that was without upgrading the brakes, but the bottom line was that cornering speed was no better. It was a very sad thing to do. haha

There's only so much cornering g a car can take, the M3 CSL has pretty much already got the maximum handling possible for that chassis I reckon, with those 19" alloys and Michelin Pilots and all the roof weight reduction, stiffer and lowered suspension etc.
