E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

Just wondering if anyone has some ideas of some cheap and easy suggestions for upgrades in my '88 325ic in terms of performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A C.A.I. (Colad Air Intake) Would be a good, easy and cheap way to get some power and a hell of a lot of good noise !
Try NGK Irridium spark plugs, they wont exactly give you performance but will smooth the engine out and give you a smoother torque curve throughout the RPM range.

Yeah, If you want a true CAI you are gonna have to make your own inlet piping and stuff. I looked for one too, and they only have ones with a heat shield for our cars, unless somebody knows of one...but all mine really does is give a great growling sound, not much a of a power increase, just a more responsive throtle

before you get gung-ho on CAI's do a search on here and find out the true facts. cheapo cai's arent gonna get you nothing (no hp) but will give you nice engine humm. fact of the matter is, stock filteration housing and filter on M20's prevails. read up on it. you want a cheapo mod to pick up some horsey's just get a Mark D chip matched up with 17#or19# fuel injectors. This is probably the best bang for the buck mod to do for hp gains.

+1 Get a chip... but a markD chip and a new set of injectors aren't cheapo in my book, but it is one of the best bangs for the buck

budget? I'm shooting for $500-$600 hopefully so whatever will help the most then I'll look into that.

ok so i found a K&N intake that should fit my car at: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-0070
but it doesn't come with a heat shield. So i did a little bit more research, and was able to find a site that sold a heat shield: http://www.signaturemotoring.com/Col...r%20Intake.htm So the only problem i have now is that I'm not sure if i should stick with the cone intake with the heat shield, or get the Carbon Dynamic Airbox instead: http://www.motormec.co.uk/cda.html#application Any thoughts?

that racing dynamics shield looks great. Stay away from metal heatshields. There is a reason the oem intake pieces are plastic and its not to reduce cost. i like the itg filters turner sells. Once i finish my CAD training i'll be making some killer ram air intakes and 3" maf's. They should be ready by 2010 lol.
i like the exhaust ie sells. you can also get them on ebay for about 320 shipped. |
