Ultimate Dice Installation Manual
I installed the DICE iPod module into my 2007 X3 3.0si (Business CD). I took many photos and created an installation manual because the company the manufactures them does not provide one specific to the 2007 X3 (Business CD)
Comments and suggestions are requested. Dice_Installation_Manual.pdf (2272 KB) Enjoy... Last edited by XJSChris; 09-04-2007 at 08:41 AM. |

I've tried to download the file twice and each time I get something Acrobat Reader can't read. Can you please check your file?

Perfect timing on your posting the install info.
I ordered my Dice yesterday and it should arrive tommorow.(they are running a special with free shipping). I was able to pull the 3 and 6 pin cables loose without needing to removfe the center console. After finding the hole in the carpet under the metal bracket, I used a par of hemostats and was able to grab the foam cable wraping and the wiring came right out. Hopefully routing the connection cable to the top of the armrest will be as easy as your photos make it seem. Thanks again. Larry |

WOW, great stuff XJS Chris!
The guys at Best Buy (who installed my Dice unit) also did not need to remove the center console to find the cables, so it was actually easyer then what you show in your install info. Also I wanted to have access to the IPOD in order to navigate through the various menus without opening the center console all the time, so instead, I had them re-route the wires to my glove compartment (no holes required) and then the tiny wire to the IPOD is almost invisible to the pro-clip dash mount. Here are a few pics of the final result. I'm very happy with it.

So, how does the unit work? I've been reading all sorts of disappointing posts with sound problems (as in no sound) and the like. Is it working well for you?

the unit works great.. you will have no sound if you plug it into the wrong plug. There is a set of plugs in the trunk that are only for the Sirius radio. I was not able to located a set of plugs in the trunk of my X3 for the CD Changer.
There are (2) 6-pin plugs in the armrest console. One of the 6-pin plugs is labeled CD-SDARS and is for Sirius, the other is for the CD changer. If you plug the DICE into the CD-SDARS plug, you will see CD text scrolling on the Business CD player, but will hear static. |

Does this procedure also work with the '08 "609 Navigation System"?

That was the one of the most highly detailed DIY instruction manuals I have ever seen...

On the last page, the picture of the business radio shows "TEL", for telephone? Mine does this too. Is this a bug?

just did this install today on my 04 x3 3.0 and it went smoothly, a bit of a hassel to get the ipod cord thru the hinge area but you can notch some room out of the lid right over the cell phone bundle to creat room and it will be hidden when reassembled (worked for me your results may very)

XJSChris -- thanks so much for creating that excellent manual. Just finished the installation in my 2004 X3, and had a few observations. First, when you drill the hole into the center console tray, do it from the back -- that way, all of the plastic bunches up on the back, and can be easily trimmed off, out of sight. Second, and perhaps biggest -- DICE now is using a blue housing on the pin that goes to the DICE unit (the one that is like an S video pin). That makes the routing through the hinge a little more difficult -- more than just wiggling through with a screwdriver. UNTIL you flip up the plastic piece shown just to the left of the red circle in the photo at the bottom of page 18. That piece rotates up and allows the pin to pass through easily. Once it is through, then rotate it back to the original position. Just a small tip. Otherwise, you showed an excellent path to a professional looking instalation. Thanks.

Are you happy with thre DICE for the X3? Ive had various Dice / icelink hookups for my e46 and they keep breaking and there has always been alternator noise...
Is the OEM ipod adapter still junk?

Very nicely done. One minor correction of a typo:
Your page 5, first sentence, reads: "Test your cutting but placing the DICE cord into the middle of the washer." I think you want to change the "but" to "by", so that it says: "Test your cutting by placing the DICE cord into the middle of the washer." Now, what are you connecting with your DICE kit? If it is the iPhone 3G, is DICE offering it with a charging cable yet? When I purchased my kit in early August, they said they were working on a solution to the fact that Apple had changed the connection wiring, so the kits they were sending out would not be able to charge iPhone 3G.

Very nice instructions. I had to adjust things slightly since I have some different options.
I am not sure if I toally like the Dice. I will try it for a few days and see how it goes.
