Curious oil light and engine oil fluctuations.

I'm a year now into owning my 330Ci and thus far have had no problems. Recently, at about 12,000 miles, my oil light came on while I was driving, which was odd because I check my oil weekly and at last check it had been fine. I pulled over, checked the oil, and the reading was normal.

A week later this happened again, but the oil reading came in low that time, so I added some. No more oil light…for about a week or two. Then the cycle repeated, and has continued to every couple of weeks since.

At this point, I'm semi-regularly getting the oil light but having normal oil level readings, OR getting the oil light and finding the level low (and having to add some) not long after normal readings. And all of this after a long period of trouble-free driving.

Time to go to the shop, yes, but before I do, any idea what might be going on?

Bad oil pressure sender.

My OEM sender failed on my VW. Same VDO sender as BMW uses.
