smells like coolant

I have a 95 740i and the last couple days its smelling like coolant while driving inside the car. Theres no leaks under the car that i can tell, its not overheating(yet). could it be heater core leaking? Or a hose? Is it hard to get to the heater core assembly? Thanks

Sounds like the heater core, if you are smelling it inside. Check for wet carpet on the passenger side.

Ive had bmw cars for years and never had this problem. Is there a repair manual download for e38? I have the 3 and 5 series but cant find 7 series e38. Thanks

Hi and welcome to E38 land where every automotive evil spirit has it's play ground. There are drains in the heater box (to allow for air conditioner condensate). A small leak (enough to smell) could evaporate before hitting the ground - engine and gearbox heat etc so carefully check the gearbox for water trails. Other than that it's heater matrix out time. Sux to be you. Try e-bay for a manual, maybe on DVD. That's where I got my TIS.
