Rattle, bump then fish bite.

Hey guys, this one has threw me for a curve. So the car on does this under acceleration, and most of the time when it's not hard acceleration. Also at high speeds (45+)you can't even tell that this happens. The car gets a rattle in the right front and it's very subtle, then at the end it has a very light bump and the car will fish bite, like the engine has a partial miss, for up to about a second. The car isn't theowing any lights and the obd isn't throwing any codes. Can any of you help me out with this?

Possibly camshaft position sensor. That hesitation may be an early sign of failure. If it is this, then you may experience sudden engine cut outs, but the engine will re-start. Frequency of stalling increases the longer you leave it..

From my early experience with my first E38, it may be the torque converter lockup clutch having trouble engaging. This is the rattling noise, coupled with the apparent 'misfire' which may actually be the effect provided by the clutch engaging and disengaging. Normally occurring under moderate acceleration after loafing along - first the rattle and then the slight jerking, then nothing else much apparently wrong after the lockup is fully disengaged. Check your trans fluid for discoloration and metal bits ....
