My biggest question!!! damn headrest

Any advise?

Ummm. Select the back part of the seat selector for adjustment and move the knob thingy down (push downward).

Voila.

Could be a manual head rest. Try pushing down on it but not too hard. Just play around with the buttons a little bit?

yeah it's weird I have to damn near bring the seat within 6 inches of the steering wheel to get the headrest to go all the way down. I have absolutely no control hopefully the dealer can deactive the feature

Nop, don't try to push it down, coz i think it's link with the seat. When you moving the seat forward, then the headrest with going down, the headrest will going up if you moving the seat backward. sounds like no way to manually control it..sigh,,why i'm not as tall as YaoMing?

So maybe the button is bad and needs to be repaired? Does it not work on either side?

Just got the car back and the dealer basically told me im SOL with my headrest. I have the comfort seats that automatically adjust with the movement of the seat and being that I do not have the option to adjust the headrest I just have to deal with it. He also stated that there is no way to deactivate this feature either. Anyone know if I can disconnet a harness or something to kil the headrest?

Sorry I did not see this earlier. The 02 standard seats have the headrest movement linked to the forward/reverse movement of the seat. I was not going to buy the car because of this ill-conceived "feature". It assumes if the seat is moved back the passenger is a tall person and adjusts the headrest up accordingly. Move it forward and it lowers for a smaller person. There IS an undocumented defeat switch of some sort under the seat that only one person in the service dept at my dealer knew was there and how to operate it. What ever he did (it took 3 minutes) the headrest no longer moves with the seat. You can manually move it up and down however. If your service person can't figure it out tell him to contact BMWNA.

actually I moved the seat all the way forward until the headrest was fully lowered then I put my weight on the headrest and moved the seat back. I applied pressure until I heard a pop and voila no more "dumb" headrest adaptation. I can stil raise and lower the headrest manually and they stay in place.

Hey Antonio:

Did anything break that was needed? It's great if you have your problem solved though.

The headrests on these cars are active headrest which mean that in case of a collision a small charge (similar to the airbag's) goes off and pushes the headrest forward to minimize neck injury. Hopefully that pop you heard didn't messed up anything.

Do all 7's have power headrests? My '02 745i Sport headrest does not seem to have any power feature and I just figured it didn't have it.

Everything else functions just fine. I guess I will not know about the safety feature of the headrest until (God forbid) an accident, but I know that if I would have left them the way they were I would have been more prone to cause a accident because I could not see my blind spot.
