What is wrong with getting a portable unit and using an Aux jack to get the sound?

I thought the Aux Jack delivers less superior sound too. Integrated is the way to go.

I am with you. I actually tried to have them throw it in while I was negotiating on the car, but was not successful. How much are they charging for the install? What dees the antenna look like? Another member here was saying that the antenna is not going to look like the factory shark fin antenna. This is why I am trying to decide on a portable unit.
Thanks. |

I'm told that the shark has the sirius antenna. Alan Alfano put me on to the mini shark on the E93 3 series convertible. If that works out, I will be putting it on the roof. Last edited by Ron Stygar; 11-03-2007 at 04:17 PM. |

Sirius receiver and recommended antenna
Received the Sirius receiver and recommended antenna.
![]() ![]() Shark antenna should be here Wednesday. Looks like the bottom part of the antenna requires a ~ 2 inch x 4 inch oval hole. Not going to happen. Gave up on that idea. Thought about it and may be able to use the cover part #2 of the shark antenna with the recommended antenna. Will know for sure when it shows up. ![]() Last edited by Ron Stygar; 05-17-2009 at 05:25 PM. |

Shark Antenna plus
As mentioned, the antenna part of the shark antenna won't work.
The housing part with some mods will. The recommended antenna is magnetic and has a .040" double sided tape over it. Rather than usings the housing studs, I cut them off and will mount it with double sided tape. The recommended antenna fits the housing minus .020" on one side. Will mill the top off of the antenna cover until it hits the metal piece in the top of the antenna cover. Will drill one hole for the wire. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Ron Stygar; 05-17-2009 at 05:30 PM. |

Shark housing with no studs
Used ~.050" 3M VHB in dark gray to see how it fits with the contour.
Will modify the antenna tomorrow. Will install the system. If it works, will have the housing painted in white. ![]() Last edited by Ron Stygar; 05-17-2009 at 05:31 PM. |

Trunks apart
Trunk will be apart for awhile.
Will probably velcro the Sirius receiver in place and ground it to the bracket. Have to finish the started insulation along with some other things this Winter. Last edited by Ron Stygar; 05-17-2009 at 05:35 PM. |

Install
Removed the amp bracket to add the velcro for the Sirius receiver.
CD changer wiring was available wiithout taking the front apart. Works fine with the CD changer (Just another input). Activated. Antenna temporary on roof. Shark cover makes no difference. Will drop off the Shark housing for paint. Hardest part of this will be locating the antenna dead nuts. Thanks to Tom of EAS for the how to and daisy chain cable which lets the CD changer exist with Sirius. Thanks to Alan Alfano for putting me on to the E93 mini shark antenna. Next. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Ron Stygar; 05-17-2009 at 05:36 PM. |

Antenna housing installed
I kind of like the antenna in black. Will be doing some body mods early next year and can change it to white if I change my mind.
