I am trying to talk my wife out of her IS300 into this (unfortunately there is no way I would fit in it).

Ironic you should post this. A guy just offered to buy my GTI. I would kill for another Compact.

Yep....still pretty pricey IMO. The E36 compact was mid 20s IIRC....but that was a 1.8/9 and not the 2.5.

European cars seem especially expensive in Australia, though. Maybe they have high import tariffs or something? Seems most Japanese nameplates have local factories, maybe to avoid this.

It was strange, the prices on the Minis were almost exactly what they are here taking into account the exchange rate. The BMWs are VERY expensive. I don't know if that has to do with a law that other countries have of engine displacement or not. They had a 735i (not 745 or L) that was A$207K...that about US$120k for a 735!

The reported price of the M3 CSL (20 examples going there) was A$210k.

In Finland, the E65 735i costs around 130,000 EUR ...

29% New Car Tax. Fockers.

I'd be willing to pay ~$30K for a well-equipped E46 Compact, but I am a little nuts about them.

I'd take an "underpowered" Compact over an R32 or an MCS.
