To day i took my car to get looked at and they said the diagnostic port was not working! dose any one know how i can reset it. they told me one of the modules was pulling down the system, and they would have to disconect all of them to get it working. dose anyone know how to do this?

if you have the OBD connector inside please make sure the cover/lid is shut so that the jumper makes contact.

Eh??

The one in the cabin (OBDII) or the one in the engine bay (OBDI)?

If it has a 20 pin.OBD1 is connected in series.if the cover is off,you cannot establish communication due to (txd)and (rxd) data communication lines.

simply:
SECURE THE OBD CONNECTOR WHEN USING 20 PIN DIAG.
SECURE THE 20 PIN COVER WHEN USING OBD CONNECTOR.

Ask him if the lights come on in a room with the switch in the off position.

There is no power to the OBD port with the switch off. It has to be in position 1.

And you're in the wrong forum. You should be posting questions about your 7 Series here:

We certainly don't mind answering questions about other series cars, but this is the E36 forum, the 1991-1999 3 Series forum.
