325e engine surge

Help

I just replaced my air flow sensor, and the car is surging when warm and idling.

Do these units need adjusting?

Any suggestions?

THANKS

The surging only happens when it is warm and when idling. it surges in the 7000 to 12000 range so not that bad

check out this thread and it might lead you to some possiblities

and even if you dont find the problem youll be fine, thats not a huge difference in rpms. just kinda kills the gas mileage.

Downhiller

One more question for ya. The air flow sensor that I bought was from a junkyard. It is running much better than before. Could the surging still be a problem with the air flow sensor.

Thanks

I will probably get a machanic look at it

its hard to say, it could be and then it could be something else. a simple way is to start with the obvious. check the filters (air and fuel), make sure there up to speed, then go to the sensors (check the o2 sensors too), clean the connectors with an electrical cleaner for better continuity, then if that doesnt do the trick then you need to start looking at new sensors, or slightly used one. and after that it goes in to the ICU, ICM, and ICV.

but taking it to a mechanic is a good idea so they could connect their computer in and they can see what is sending a good signal and which have weak signals.

you probably got a crappy AFM, take it back and try another one.
