E39 (1997 - 2003)

Can any of you guys please post a picture of the Franklin tool in its opened out state just so i can see how it all fits to the subframe.
Any chance of dimensions.
I'm afraid i'm going to have to make one as i cannot afford 250+ for this tool just to use the once. Unfortunately no one on any of the uk forums has one available.
I've made other tools in the past but they were simpler but i believe this thing is heavy and big. I'm just trying to see howthis tool goes over the bush and which part of the subframe does it locate agains i.e all round or just part?.

How'd that Franklin e39 touring rear sub frame bushing puller work? Any chance you'd want to rent it? I'm in Boston.

You can eliminate shocks by pushing down on each corner 5 times hard and see if the car bounces more than once, if it does then the shocks are bad.
Airbags should be easy to rule out too, just check for a level rear end before and after loading it, they won't change the body dampening unless they are completely flat, then your arse will sag!


My bet is also on the hydraulic body dampner mounts.

Not clear to me that the original poster ever solved the mystery...Yup, I noticed a bounce the other day in my wagon like poster described... figured it was a fuel-slosh related thing or the vibrations induced from a nearby train. What's the verdict on the mystery iT bounce?

A forum buddy and I replaced all 4 of the subframe bushings last year and the bouncing mostly went away. When I checked them out, the bushings were all cracked and the hydraulic fluid that was supposed to be in there had leaked out. Anybody with a touring that's over 4 years old (which would be...ummm...all of them) probably need these bushings replaced.

An internet buddy and I used the tool that Jason Scott has been kind enough to rent out and it worked great. In fact, if you're considering doing the same job, don't try it without the right tool. It's basically an impossible job.

The rear end bouncing is much better but there's still a little there. With new bushings and shocks, I can only conclude that's the way it came from the factory. Still a little annoying but at least I know that's the way it's supposed to be.

BMW e39 touring rear sachs sport for self-leveling issue

I had my rear self leveling suspension Sachs replaced about 30K ago on my wagon and I have noticed only in cooler climate one of the Sacks drops a bit (loosing air) on one side over night but as soon as I open the drivers door the rear suspension automatically levels itself right back and holds to the proper hight. It feels like it rides normal and it doesn't seem like it's anything serious or damaged but I think it might be something I can adjust or tighten to cure this. Keep-in-mind that this only happens in colder outdoor temperatures but it's fine in warm weather. I am thinking may be a valve or air line was not tightened enough during installation.

Any suggestions how to correct this issue would be most appreciated.
