Jon, Ted, anyone... how about a Bimmerfest East?

I'll be the first to admit that I'm really jealous about Bimmerfest. If I had the time and funds, I'd just hop in the car and head over there. But for most of us east coast festers, that's not possible.

So, when TedW's dealership came on board as an official sponsor for bimmerfest, and he's located out east... my hopes started building.

What are the chances of organizing an official east coast Bimmerfest? Perhaps there is one already secretly in the works?

I know events like this can be a real chore to organize. I know first hand... I ran Big Huge 2002, a VW Passat event in New York state last spring. It was held at a VW dealership, and over 65 cars attended. We raised over $2000 for charity and had a raffle, group drive and car show. Other than some suggestions from friends, I pretty much ran the thing single-handed. Here are some photos of the event: CLICK

Am I willing to run/organize the event myself? No... I learned how much work is involved, and we only had 65 cars. Am I willing to lend a hand? Sure!

Let's have a Bimmerfest East!

MAN! You guy's are tough. Can't I get my feet wet first? I'm sitting here invisioning a scenic ride through downtown Utica NY and it's not working for me right now. Our dealership is so packed with cars right now that we are advertising valet parking this weekend. Although we do participate in the Susan Komen "Drive for the Cure" and some how we clear enough room.

Bimmerfest east is not out of the question and I would be proud to host such an event. I'll see what I can do for you guys in the east. I know already from the short time that I've been on this board that I would have plenty of support. I promise to try.

I thought I saw a website somewhere promoting a 'Bimmerfest East' event although it didn't look like it was any sort of dealer-sponsored event.

There is an event/group that goes by www.bimmerfesteast.com .
Back in 2000 I gave them permission to use the name for their
event. So far I have seen or heard nothing about an event
to be sanctioned by them in 2003.

Should we plan one ourselves?

Excellent idea. If Jon buys I'll fly.

Now there's an old "car biz" phrase if I ever did hear one...

Just had Burger King for lunch.

Told one of my CA's "I'll buy if you fly"...

We car guys never get to "go out" to lunch...

That's the truth Jon. If the "lunch manager" doesn't go out and get my lunch, I don't eat.

Ted, are you the only BMW dealer in town, or are there other BMW dealers nearby that might want to 'pitch in' on an event hosted at a neutral location?

We're a little spread out here. I'm prepared to host an event myself though (with help from others on this board). I'm thinking sometime in the fall. The fall in upstate NY is awesome. What do you guys think?

I think that would be great. The guys on the East Coast need one. I would just be aware of other big BMW events (like Homecoming and Oktoberfest) when you schedule the date.

I've already talked to powers that be here at the dealership and have been authorized to do it. The Carbone Auto Group consits of many dealerships in the area so a location will not be a problem. Let's all put our heads together and get this done. I'm in.

So you guys on the East Coast - let's hear it. You've been waiting for it.

Ted, you can put me down as a planner. I'm in and willing to help. Feel free to email me if you want to talk in greater depth. I'm about 4 hours away from Utica (I have relatives in Rome), But will do what I can LD.

Jon, get me a ticket to. I'll fly out there, take good notes, and even help you out some!

I love when someone says to me "you fly, I'll buy"... I can never have enough excuses to go drive my car. Hell, I'm always running to Dunkies to get my boss a Great One. I don't even get anything for myself even though he offers!

I was also thinking of this fall. I'm already feeling the anticipation!

You're in. I would love to make it out there to see how Jon does it, but if not I'm sure we can gather enough information to make it a successful event.

Who are your relatives in Rome? Two of the managers here are from Rome.

Ted, isn't there now an Indian casino in between Syracuse and Utica??? (it will be much easier to convince the "Mrs" to go, if there is a casino stop as well )

I'll be there

Yep. The Oneida Indian Nation Casino is only 20 minutes away. (I bet you can make it in ten )

Plus most of the managerial staff at the casino drive my cars.

I just wish there was one a little closer to Georgia, as I would love to attend.

Great idea though, an official BimmerFest East actually sponsored by a dealer.

Columbus Oh to Utica NY, 512 miles. I would love to attend one of these (the local CCA here sucks), but this is a little far for me.

Oh yeah, the baseball hall of fame. If you guys ever go there stay at the tunnacliff (restaurant/hotel). The owner of the place buy's all his BMW's from me and always refuses to let me pay when I stay there. The Hotel is historical like most of Cooperstown and the owner(Frank) is a great guy.

Find some other 'festers nearby and caravan (like the Seattle people do).

After the initial burst of excitement, this thread sure got quiet. Is it still end-of-month for Jon and Ted?

Or am I just chomping at the bit to have a bimmerfest east?

It really is. We're still squeezing deals into last month. I'm still up for the Bimmerfest east. If you want something to divert your attention: a little bird told me that BMWFS just introduced an even better lease deal on the 5 series.

It still is month-end. I am battling payroll, inventory,
bonuses, schedules, ...etc.

Btw, a little birdie told me too that BMWFS is going to
be making the 1st (2) payments on CPOs during
the month of April, and that's no foolin'....

Now THERE is a fine idea. A caravan would definitely make the long distance more fun. I'll bring this up at the new CCA gathering here.
