Wrong forum. This is the 1-series forum.

I'd go for the ZHP. It's already taken the depreciation hit, and 328i's are going to be as common as skittles, not to mention the ZHP is loads more fun to drive, more appealing interior (and exterior). Read the e46 wiki for more info about it.

Yes, then go for the ZHP. Did you like how the 04 sport drive? If so, you'll enjoy the ZHP even more.

Maybe, it's hard to find one in your area. If you really want one, I'd suggest you extend your search. If you prefer a CPO one, go to BMWUSA and search for it. That'll give you an idea how far you might need to go to find your ZHP!!

Good luck!

Vornado, you must be experiencing a Juggy OD....this IS the E46 forum.... :-)
To the OP, drive a ZHP, and you`ll probably buy it....the 328 pales by comparison, IMHO.

ZHP - no brainer for me. I really don't like the E90 328.

ZHP is much more the drivers car. E9X is more current, has more techno features, is larger inside and out, but is way to soft for my tastes.

(To put my view on the topic into perspective, my next car will be either a 135, a E46 M3, or possibly a MZ4 coupe.)

I would go for the ZHP IMHO (had one, now an M3) but also ask this on the E90/E92 forum, see what type of answer you get here, both will probably be bias, its really up to you, you can get a ZHP now at probably a good price with CPO warranty, then later get a 328 when they hopefully anthracite headliner as an option and some other goodies always added a few years after the intial model year.

I own a ZHP, and I've had the opportunity to drive a E90 328i twice for an extended period. Yawn is all I can say about that car.

If you want a driver's car that is engaging and provokes a desire to better yourself as a driver, and invites you to take it out for a run just for the fun of it, then you want a ZHP.

If you want a nice car that's quiet, numb, and visually dull, get the E90.

Or course, this is my unbiased* opinion.

The more I read about the possibilities of engine related issues with the M54 equipped cars, I'd say an extended/cpo warranty that covers the drivetrain 100% is going to be an important part of your decision. Factor this into your purchase price. It would not sway me to go E90 over E46 though. It's always good to cover yourself in the long run when purchasing a used performance car.

* Author is incapable of providing unbiased opinions when it comes to comparing the E46 to any E9x

Ditto what he said. I'm driving an e90 328 while my ZHP is in the shop. Can't wait to get my ZHP back...

Thread was moved from 1 series to E46.

Buy a ZHP, and get the 328 as your loaner car. You'll thank me.

Mein Auto: Lots of different cars
I stumbled onto my ZHP while out looking at new cars and WOW! I bought the car (CPO) right on the spot. For me - always being in high performance cars (see my garage) - it was the no brainer of the year. Only had it a few weeks but it just keeps delivering the thrills. HONEST STATEMENT: I have not driven my P car since I got this ZHP! Disclaimer: I am in no way saying the two cars can compare but for my daily driver mixed with fun and no worries about where to park it, etc - the ZHP keeps me preoccupied and not thinking or needing to drive the 996.

You most likely will not regret finding a ZHP for your next ride. eric

Most of those who'll answer on the E9x forum won't have even come near to a ZHP, let alone driven or owned one.

I've had one for 4+ years, and hand on heart it was more fun to drive than my current 335i. Compared to a 328, it's as if they came from different manufacturers...

ZHP without a doubt. I saw mine at the dealer and bought it right away. By the way, OP, if you're really interested in getting a ZHP. I stopped by my dealer yesterday and saw two convertibles. I didnt check to see if they had any coupes or sedans, but I'm sure they do. Georgia is not that far away from Miami. Maybe you could fly down and drive back up in your new ZHP and realize its so much more fun than a 335.

I love my '05 ZHP. It's a fun car to drive that has a classy look. I'm very used to driving high performance cars so that's where my perspective comes from (my other cars are a Ferrari and a '64 Corvette).

I was there

I was seriously looking at ordering a 2007 328 sedan to get just what I wanted. But I sort of struggled with the fact that I really prefered the e46 look, I didn't want to necessarily eat the new car depreciation, and I did not want run flat tires, but did want a dip stick...so I figured I would just look around for a while and see if I could find the perfect e46....well I did. I found an 04 ZHP with the Dinan Signature package. Just the color and features that I wanted. Wow, what a great car. Everytime I walk up to this car, I think "I could drive this thing for a llllooonnnngggg time". It was the exact car that I wanted..good luck in your search.

ZHP advice

ZHP equipped 330i's are not hard to find. You may have to have the car shipped from out of state, but they are out there. Check out Ebay Motors and search Autotrader.com. I recently purchased a '04 CPO 330i ZHP with 40K miles for $27,500. I had to pay an additional $1,100 to have the car shipped from Ohio to Oregon. Not a GREAT deal but a lot of car for the money. After 3-months of ownership I have zero regrets. If you really want a car that engages you, excites your senses and presents practical transportation for everyday driving - then go with the ZHP.

Actually, I'd take a loaded ZSP (mine ) over the 328.

Differences between ZSP and ZHP are there, but the ZSP is hardly soft. And w/ a few mods, it's right there

ZHP all the way

Do you want to drive a car or have the car drive you?

The ZHP, as everyone pretty much agrees, is a car that you will drive, and love every minute of it.

I was very fortunate. My old ride was totaled on the freeway. Had to find a new one. Went looking for a manual transmission. Found an 04 330i ZHP, Imola Red at the local BMW dealer. One test drive and I bought it. Have not have a second thought yet. Even my wife is getting jealous of it ("you love that thing more than me", but the ZHP only growls, never nags!!).

Seriously, it is a personal preference. Test drive both and go with your gut (if you didnt loose it over that last bump!).

Driving wise I'm sure the ZHP is going to be more involving, but if it was me I'd go with the 328. It's new, has new features and the warranty and service are intact. I still like the look of the e46, but I saw one today and just thought that it looks outdated now compared to the e90/92. Either one is a winner, just giving my opinion. Why not just spring for the 335?

Alittle bigger than the 1er, and a little smaller than the [new] 3er. The fun of a smaller 1er, and the comfort of a larger 3er. Its the e46 ZHP!
