Nov 13th European Delivery

We arrived early Monday, Nov 12th in Munich with friends who had also ordered a new 335 (convertible), to cold and rain. After check in, we went to the Welt were we took the factory tour. The Welt is a beautiful environment to learn about BMWs. It was amazing to watch the cars built, starting with a roll of sheet steel being punch cut and formed into panels, then robotically welded and assembled. At one station, about 20 robots took floor, side, and roof panels and built a recognizable car in < 1 minute!

After the tour, we ate at an excellent Michelin-starred restaurant, Schubecks. The next day we went back to the Welt at 8:30 for our introduction to the 335 coupe. The walkthrough and simulator were interesting, but the excitement meter pegged on going down the stairway to see our cars waiting on turntables, lights, action…

After going over the car, checking all the details, and finishing our paperwork, we drove down the ramp, outside into rain and a bit of snow, and back into the parking structure at the Welt and finished our tour. By 1pm we were on our way to Zurich on the autobahn. Rain held the speeds down, but in places it was dry, so we were able to get up to 110-120mph (keeping revs below 4000). The car is a dream, solid, and smooth with great power.

After an overnight stay in Zurich, we departed for Lyon. Conditions were not ideal, rain and light snow through the Alps, but roads were fortunately clear. On arriving in France, rain had ended, but it was windy and cold (40F is cold to us from SoCal). An overnight stay at a wonderful hotel, the Villa Florentine, was again helped by a meal in their fab 1 star restaurant. The view of Lyon from the hotel was spectacular, and the location for walking to the Old Town was great.

The next day , after walking Lyon for the morning, we drove to Provence, to stay at a friend’s farmhouse near Avignon. The chance to drive the local country and mountain roads, planning each day based on the choice of which village had a great market, restaurant, or winery was fabulous. Having the nav system was a delight, as we could call up detail about a village, the local wineries, etc, and be on our way in 1 step.

After 4 days there, we drove to Nice, to drop off the cars. The whole drop off process was incredibly organized, as easy as returning a rental car. The following day, we returned to the US. Now the difficult wait begins!

Overall it was a great trip. ED was a wonderful experience that I will certainly repeat for my next Bimmer.

Beautiful color combo on the coupe! Nice report, many thanks. As to the wait: I feel your pain -- I picked up the day after you, dropped off on Saturday.

Go ahead, rub it in. I'll be running to put on my shorts by the time the mercury climbs to 40 in late March.

Very nice pictures..... I am also sooo jealous that they installed your front plate by using double sided type! They are finally learning not to drill holes on the US cars.....
