Google and your Phone number

Try a Google search and put in your phone number with area code and using hyphens:

xxx-xxx-xxxx

If you're like me, your name comes up with a mapquest link with directions to your house!

If you click on the telephone icon to the left, there are instructions to remove your number from the database.

I am unlisted, so nothing comes up.

Weird. No records found for my phone. Some interesting names came up for some phone numbers I tried though

Well, if they know your phone number they have your name also. So, all they have to do is look in the phone book and get your address. They just cut out a step.

Hmm, I coulda sworn I have an unlisted #. No address comes up, though. (and clicking on the map links drops you in the wrong city).

BTW, Anywho.com has had a "Reverse Look-Up" feature for years. It does basically the same thing.

Nothing comes up for me....

I'm there but since I do not have my address in the book all you get is a big map of my zip code (Not that iit is any deterrent to stalkers like Alee )

And then, before that, there were always the reverse look up directories that you could find in any public library.

Apparently cell phones will soon be listed as well. Keep an eye on the paperwork that comes bundled with your cell phone bill - it's starting to look like this is going to be an opt-out scenario instead of opt-in as it should be. Not only that but you might even have to pay to opt out. Annoying.

When I filed for a new business license a couple years ago I put my cell phone number on the form (I didn't have a business number yet for them to contact me if there were any problems) and wrote "Cell phone, please do not publish." Well, it got published anyway and I got 20+ solicitations every day on my cell for over two months. I still get them sometimes, and I know it was from that stupid listing. Although it's illegal and [most] solicitors know this, it makes me wonder how this listing is going to pan out. I'm sure it's mighty tempting for those blood suckers to be able to reach someone just about every time they call instead of having to be at the mercy of the schedules of their prey.

Ugh... bad enough that I get telemarketers despite my # being unlisted... but soon I might have to put up with them on my cell?
