e39 water leak

I have a 98 528i that's leaking coolant (slow drip when hot) from the rear of the engine on the passanger side. I can't identify the location, but the drip is falling on the exhaust manifold's mounting point to the exhaust pipe. The fitting on the opposite side of the head that feeds the heater core appears ok. I suspect the head gasket, but have no other symptoms other than this coolant loss. Any one had a similar problem?
Thanks

My 97 528i has a similar problem. It started as an overheating problem, then got a lot of parts replaced, including thermostat, thermostat housing, outflow hose, coolant expansion tank and the fan clutch. Now the temperature seems stable but the coolant is loosing somewhere slowly. When the car is hot, there is an odor of coolant from the vent. Not sure if the coolant is burnt under the hood or there is a leak in the heater core.

My 97 328i also had a mystery coolant leak II6691, you might want to check your radiator. I discovered that mine leaks slowly while under load from either the drain plug or the lower side of the radiator where the plastic end meets the metal fins. Long story short, I have a radiator on order.
