87 635csi rough start

HI, all. I'm the original owner of an '87 635csi and recently experienced this problem:
Startup is fine, but when I shift to drive or reverse she runs rough, balks and threatens to stall. I have to feed the gas slowly, and after 20-30 seconds, the car runs smoothly..... until I shut off the engine, even for a few minutes. Upon restart the same problem resurfaces.


Any thoughts?

Ironic, same thing happens to my 87' 635csi and recently at that. I was considering increasing the idle speed but that won't fix the problem at hand. If anybody knows a couple possible remedies I would appreciate it as well.

Common on those engines is the cold start valve and Idle Control Valve. You can temp fix by removing and cleaning.
