2008 Bmw X5

Hi everyone!

Just got my new '08 X5 from the dealership yesterday afternoon, and just realized what I am in right now (after reading the complatins at this forum)

So I got it at 9 miles, and took a drive around, and returned at about 35 miles, and noticed a burnt smell coming out from the exhaust.

Took it for a drive again today for another 15 miles, and still notice the burnt smell from the exhaust.

What do you think happened? It is brand new, and it just arrived at the dealership on Thursday. I bought it for 77k after tax, and I hope this does no long-term damage to the car.

Specifications:
2008 BMW X5 4.8i
Black Sapphire Metallic/Black Nevada Leather with Dark Bamboo wood trim
Premium Package
Sport Package with 20" Light-alloy wheels Y-Spoke (style 214) with mixed run-flat performance tires
Premium Sound Package
Cold Weather Package
Technology Package
Rear Climate Package
Active Steering
Comfort Access System
Head-Up Display
Aluminium Running Boards
iPod and USB Adapter

Congrats!

It's probably nothing to worry about, the engine is brand new after all. It should go away in a few miles or so.

I also noticed that there were black lines (look slike dried up liquid) on my wheels, what do you think happened?

And about the 2 second acceleration delay problem, did every and each one of you experience that or not? Because I was so happy with my new car's performance that I keep on going at 3500-4500 RPM and maxed at 80mph.

Will this make me get the annoying 2 second acceleration delay problems etc?

My dealer told me its 5000 miles for the break in, what is the actual mileage? I believe most BMWs break in at around 1200 miles.

Thanks for your concerns!

Nothing to worry about. When the car is so new you get the funny smells of different liguids/paint/etc excess burning off. I should be getting mine this week (very similar specs to yours except the 20' wheels) and will let you know.

The dried up liquid and black streaks is likely the tire dressing that the dealer put on your tires drooling onto the wheels as you drive.

Once again, thank you for the replies!

But what about the break in, is it really 5000 miles before I can floor the X5?

and why didn't you guys get the X6 instead? my reason was because it can only hold 4 while I have a family of 5.

Which part of the DVD player did you use? The one in the middle or the one hidden in the storage compartment?

No. Try the one in the glove compartment box, the one at the right side of your vehicle. It is hiddenw ithin the glove compartment box, and it has DVD written all over it. I played Pursuit of happiness for about 10 mins, and it worked.

Hmm...im not quite sure about the 7 series, but did you search for the dvd at the rear compartment? (at the back of your car)

it might be there, but then it might not be there. might as well check it out ^^

Owners manual says go easy (no hard accel/braking, keep it under 100 MPH) for the first 1200 miles. I'm going to follow it. It is hard to keep off the gas!

Look up Break in in your owners manual...
Enjoy it!
