5-series in Ronin: M5 or not?

The Paris chase in the movie Ronin features a BMW against a Citroen. I've recently been wondering if the bim featured in the movie is an M5 or not. Many pepole claim it isn't, but at 6:12 in the youtube link I posted below, I think you can clearly see an M5 emblem.

Thoughts?

yes, the wheels are consistent with those on the earlier E34 M5's, the kind that makes it look like it has white walls, as opposed to the later throwing star wheels, if I recall correctly...

1: SOUNDS ARE ADDED IN POST PRODUCTION

so ignore the sound

2; MULTIPLE CARS ARE USED... so you could easily have an actual m5 and a 535 playing the same 'role'. Think of it as body doubles. Most of the chase it is a 525 or 535 with an m5 badge... there might be a shot or two where it is an actual m5, but you could say... it is almost exclusively not an M5.
this thread has popped up every month on at least one BMW forum since the movie came out... run a search.

there are so many continuity and "car double" errors in this movie that to say it's an M5 is completely wrong. you might say at xx:xx.XX the image is definately an M5, or is not.

I can say that for 90% of the chaseit is Not an m5, jsut a 535i with Mtech i wheels and an m5 badge.

Frankenhiemer (spelling) had the M5 shipped to a sound studio and recorded the engine sounds.

I know I will be showing my age here but... Although the chase scene in Ronin was exciting, One of the best car chase scenes (and some consider it The Best) of all times was in the movie "Bullet" starring Steve McQueen.

Can any one name the cars they used? I'll give you a hint. American muscle...

No - the Dodge was a Charger and the Mustang was a '68 Fastback in Dark Highland Green with a 390 engine and a four speed Toploader MT. You can see a Challenger in Vanishing Point.

right on... I remember it began with ch, but did not recall which it was.

I should really get that one on DVD...

to go along with two lane black top and Lemans... the best two car movies of all time. Gran prix would be my 3rd choice.

Agreed - to which I would only add the outrageous short film Rendevous where Claude Lelouch drives a 12 cylinder Ferrari flat out through the streets of Paris at a very early hour just as dawn is breaking. I think 1964.

Wow a Citroen keeping up to a Beemer, Excellent.
As for BULLIT I saw it when it first came out. Yes one of the best car chase scenes.

Errr, except it's not a Ferrari. A show on SPEED that marked the 40th anniversary documented how it was done in a Mercedes sedan due to the smoother chassis and better camera mount. Ferrari engine sounds are post-production. YouTube has this clip.

Here's one I found

As someone that currently owns an E34 M5, I can say that it is an M5 when you look at the side mirrors. The E34 M5 had different mirrors than the non-M 5-series cars. The wheels are also early M5 turbine wheels. It also appears to have the M5 board kit but its hard to tell with the cars moving as quickly as they do.

All things that are easily swappable from chassis to chassis. in some shots it has the proper bodykit and in some it doesn't.

The chase scene in bullet ok but the san fransisco streets they traverse are tough on the gut. I myself liked ronin as much if not better. the driving was better the cars handled better too. Ive heard it was a citron and beemer m-5, I just saw the rerun and i thought it was a peugeot due to the lion insignia on the grill. As for the beemer Im not certain I just wish my 525i had stick shift.hahaha.
