Just put some new up-date covers on your existing lights. You get clear corners and they look like the newer 01+ lights. (and it is cheap)

You can buy OEM xenon headlights from a 2001+ e39. Just the headlights. You can re-use your existing bulbs, ballasts, and autoleveling system. I did the same thing and it worked great.

No problem man. I got mine used for less than $500 from a 2003 M5 in fantabulous condition, even came with 30 mil thick 3M protective laminate that was professionally installed for $100. It didn't look like he cleaned the lights up before sending them out and they were way cleaner than my stocks. I almost didn't want to put them on and dirty them up.

On to the pics. What I like about these is that quality is a non-issue since they're Hella.

This was during the installation. Old and new side by side

Final product

Lemme know if you have any more questions

The Angel Eyes are bright. Where did you get your foglights ? They look like they're xenon .

Chief's got a 2003, so his lights are the OEM hella angel eyes that came with the car.

Like I said, OEM on the angel eyes. Gotta love 'em.

My fog lights are Höen xenonmatch halogens. I found out about them via the ads on this website and they come pretty well recommended by most anyone on this board. The statement that "not all blue halogen bulbs are created equal" really applies to them. They're higher priced, but have the quality to match. They work great and have been going strong for like 8 months now.

Oh yeah to jcardinale, you should get jonmcc's lights. You'll be doing the same upgrade I did and it's the way to go to have quality OEM Hella angel eyes.

US spec headlights have a translucent, colorless blinker. Their color depends on the bulb that you put into it. They also have an amber side reflector. Euro spec headlights have a clear reflective side, no amber.

Seems like RealOEM's being picky again.

Both. I had the brackets on the first picture when I had my 1996-2000 OEM Hella xenon non-angel eye headlights. Now I have the brackets on the second picture that came with my 2001-2003 OEM Hella xenon headlights with angel eyes. My ballasts and bulbs are still from my old lights, and they fit perfectly into the new lights and brackets. Only the headlights were redesigned for the 2001 model year; the ballasts and bulbs stayed the same.
