08 528xi vs 535xi MPG

Hello All,

So I am in the final stages of ordering a 5 series for a ED. I wanted to get some feedback on everybody's "real world" gas mileage. According to specs both 528 & 535 get the same MPG. I know this to be false because I had a 08 535 on an extended 2 week test drive and the best I was able to get was 17.5 with a mix of city & highway.

All input is appreciated.

Thanks

I get 15 with dedicated around town driving and 27-28 with all highway driving. Somewhere in the middle (21-ish) if i mix it up.

I get around 22 MPG with a mix of city and highway on my 535i. I have about a 17 mile journey each way to work. Going to work, is about 5 miles of city driving, with only a half mile of stop and go on the highway. On the way back, same amount of city driving, but about 2 miles of stop and go driving.

I got 24 MPG on my last fill up which is the highest I have seen it during my standard work commute (I got up to 30 MPG on my drive from Illinois to Las Vegas though I was going down the mountain on I-70 for a good portion of it.)

In mixed driving, I get about 17.5 MPG on average (granted, I just added a JB Stage 1 and have been lead-footing it a bit more than usual ).

not all city driving is alike, you need to look AT THE HI-WAY. my 650 gets 21 city driving with the 4.8 v8 and my wifes 330xi get 18. there'll little difference in the 335 and 328 motor at steady state driving. should be at or over 30.

My 535xi is 2 months old and still in "break-in" miles (kms). Almost ALL my driving has been city and winter months here. My mpg in US gals to date is 17mpg.

Driven the same the 528/535 should be pretty close in mileage. However when you use the extra power of the 535 that is where the difference comes in.

If I could afford it I would definitely get the 535, the difference in the fuels cost per year can't be more than $500 and you are getting so much more car.

Reminds me of when I had my E39 525i, I loved that car but ended up trading it becasue I wanted more power. If I bought the 528 but could afford the 535 I would always be wondering "should I have stretched a bit more"...

21 mpg mixed driving

I'm having 21 mpg on my computer for mixed driving. If I make longer trips, it would go up to 25-27 mpg.

It's an 08 528xi.

I get about 24 on my 528i. That is probably 80% highway 20% city, give or take.

my 535xi has about 6k miles. my commute is between LIC and Great Neck and some weekend drive. Using the traditional method of calculation at the pump, i'm getting some where around 15.5 mpg.

Who cares about MPG? The 535i is superior in everyway. If youre concerned with MPG, go buy a camry.

Not all highway driving is the same either. I've seen anywhere from 18-26mpg on the highway in my coupe depending on how fast I go. Someone who sets the cruise at 65 will easily see 2-3mpg better than someone who sets it at 75. And that's to say nothing of acceleration and braking styles.

I vote for the 535. You're unlikely to see much of a mileage difference unless you're really tromping on it, and if you're tromping on it you want the 535 and not the 528. You will never regret buying the 535 (barring unforeseen turbo problems on this new motor).
