Question 2006 X5 Tire replacement

Okay guys.. I need help. I want to surprise my fiance with some new tires for his 2006 X5 4.4i (with Sport Package). He always comes on these forums for information. So, here goes. The original equipment on his SAV was Michelin Diamaris 255/50/R10 103V for the front and 285/45/R19 107v for the back. Are these the best tires for the money? One other thing.. it is a lease and will be turned in by next Jan (2009). What should I get? Thanks!

If he always comes on the forums, it won't be a surprise...

And if it's a leased vehicle, I would tend to stick with the same tire.

Edit: I just went to Tire Rack to investigate briefly. The Diamaris is a "summer" tire that would tend to do poorly in cold temps and snow. Michelin also sells a similar all-season variant (Latitude Tour HP) that might be better for some winter use if he ever drives in the mountains or other cold weather. Both Michelins are on the expensive side, as Michelins often are, but the prices are about the same for both. The load rating on the Latitudes is 107 in the front (i.e., better) and the same in the rear and the speed rating is V for both types. If it were my X5, I'd tend to go for the all-season variant, unless I had an extra set of wheels with winter tires.

And before this goes too far, do you realize how expensive these big tires can be? About a thousand for a set!

LMC just noticed that you have both the M3 and a 3 series. The question is WHY?? why another 3 series after the M3?

325iT Wagon = family truckster (with X3 coming to replace it)

M3 Coupe = fun car

The M3 came almost two years after the wagon.

And yes, a 3 series touring is a little small for use as the family truckster, but I also have a larger vehicle in reserve: Dodge (Mercedes) Sprinter monster van!
