750i transmission slips and slams

Has anyone else experienced their 750i transmission slipping after lightly decelerating then applying the accelerator. Mine will slip momentarily and then violently slam back into gear. Twice I have started to pull over being certain I was just rear ended.

My dealer, South Bay BMW in Southern California, says there isn't a fix for this problem!

Does anyone else find this at all outrageous. I would love to know if anyone has a name or a contact at BMW North America with whom I can discuss this situation as my local dealer is worthless.

Frustrated with an Ultimate Driving Machine.

the E65/66 is infamous for transmission problems. i would try a different dealer... ive had my transmission replaced and i think 50% or more of the members on the board have had there's replaced.

I just had mine into the dealer told them of the hard 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop and they called a day later saying they ordered a new transmission. I'd say the same, to try a different dealer.

I am having the same problem with mine as well. I called 4 local area BMW dealers and not one of them offers a loaner car for warranty work. Is it just me or does anyone else find this outrageous? That makes me miss owning a Lexus.

Hey Greg, welcome aboard. hope this info helps. How about posting up some pics of your ride for us to check out?

Good luck.

I think I have seen very extensive discussions on transmission slamming problem in the 5er forum, you may want to do a search.

Anyway, take a look at this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=195020

It may not have anything to do with your problem but it definitely makes the transmission smoother for a while, at least for me, I hope it's not just something in my head.

you know I tried that too and it did stop the hard downshifting for a couple of days. Came right back tho. As far as the car feeling more responsive, I personally did not get that.

Check to make sure you aren't low on transmission fluid.

Mein Auto: might be a 750Li
sad transmission blues

Just had this happen to me (hard 2-1 downshift when stopping, and hard drop into gear when accelerating after decelerating). Have had my CPO 2006 750Li for exactly a week. Am feeling pretty bummed out and like I got taken. Would very much appreciate it if a BMW rep would contact me -- don't have the heart to start making calls to dealer right now.

take a drive with the shop foreman. throw him in the back of the car and put the child lock on and don't let him out until you replicate it and he says he felt it. i've heard its easier to replicate the situation when the car is in sport mode.

I've the similar problem for a while now. It typicall happens when I am in traffic with a lot of stop and go. I can feel a lot of gear slack. Brought it the my service rep's attention and guess what, they can't reproduce it!

I've owned Lexus, MB, and Jags. BMW has nice cars but the worst service.

Mine too

Just got a new 2008 750iL yesterday. It now has 16 miles on it (after I drove it home from dealer). I noticed the hard 2-1 downshift when I was leaving the dealer but thought it might need to get broken in some (always thinking positive). It did it consistently during the 11 mile drive home. Saw this posting when I got home and called my salesperson on the spot to tell him I'd be at dealer in the am either for a new car or at the very least a new transmission. As far as I'm concerned they can take one from another of their new 750iLs on the lot (after I drive it and confirm it does not have the problem). Never bothered to test drive the car since I was trading in my 2005 745i (how different could they have been....). Go figure.

How can you check if you're low on tranny fluid...

@ Holein1: till this far no complaints about the service... Just that the car has many problems. But they pack a lot of technology in a car, so obvious that a lot can brake down as well.
As said before, I handed in a 3 pages complaint about various things.
I did hand it in to BMW Germany, but they called and stated that the problems are to complex to be fixed in Germany (since I live in the Netherlands). So they forwarded it to BMW Benelux . No response from them yet...

Angry Same Problem 2007 BMW 750Li

I have a 2007 BMW 750Li and have taken my car to the dealer more than 4 times for all of the same symtoms on this post. I have complained of sluggish acceleration, transmission slipping and loss of power.

It appears as though the service advisors are instructed to label these problems as 'cannot duplicate'. Off the record, another service advisor in a different dealer tells me that this is a common and well known problem with the 750's. I am told that BMW does not have a fix for this and has been trying different things.

I finally got fedup with the run-around and demanded that BMW-NA buyback my car. They have refused my request and now we are in arbitration with the Better Business Bureau. I assume that they will take the position that they have never heard of this problem.

Does anyone have any written communication from BMW NA acknowledging this problem? Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

My car has about 4k miles on it and I think I got the slam last week. Was rolling out of my garage in Boston and it kind of hesitated and then slammed into gear. I noticed the DTC/DSC light blink a few times like I was spinning in snow. It felt like the transmission issue, but until it comes back, I am going to assume it was more of a loss of traction and a recovery. For some reason, maybe oil on the pavement, I always seem to spin out a little here trying to shoot out into traffic.
