Deposit on MZ4

I spoke to my dealer today (BMW of New London) and asked him if I could put a deposit on an MZ4 with no obligation. He told me that I could and I would be their first one.

Of course Ron has the plate I would want here in CT so I may just register it in Rhode Island and get the same plate there!

I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to take a 3.0 six speed Z4 for a test drive while they service my 2001 M Roadster. I'll wring it out and get a general feel for the car. I would not be willing to take the HP hit by going to a 3.0 Z4 but an MZ4 has me interested. At any rate, it won't cost anything to get in line for an order if I decide to cancel.

As far as I've heard BMW still officially denies making an ///M version of the Z4.

This just proves that dealers are happy to take your money.

(as I make a "note to self" to go to the registry and reserve that plate on Monday morning )

In all honesty, I wouldn't want to register a car in RI just so I could get a special plate! What is the tax rate in CT and do they charge substantial property taxes each year? Rhode Island screws you on the plates and registration, property taxes and sales taxes.

taxes in CT are high...

But cars are taxed by the town, not by the state of CT. I don't know how it works in RI but would guess it can't be that much more than CT. Often times, a lease includes property tax and sales tax so the driver does not have to do anything but make the payment. Again, I don't know much about RI taxes, but it's no bargain here.

We'll get the first one in Toledo, we're already penciled in (like since last October).

I had to laugh at the salesman, he thought it might be presumptuous of himself, but he just figured we'd have to have one...

I've got a buddy that has a receipt for a deposit on an E46 M3 GTR....if one ever comes to the US it's his...not likely though.

The dealers are always happy to take your money though.

Some dealers (and salesmen) are better than others, we're fortunate to have Yark BMW here in Toledo.

The deposit (on a credit card) was never processed when we bought the 01 M Rdstr. No deposit was asked for when we ordered the X5 (it even sat on the lot for a month until we were ready to take delivery of it, this at a time when they could sell every V8 they could get their hands on). And Steve (Kizewic) took it upon himself to reserve the first Z4 Motorsports Version they get for us. No deposit has been asked for nor expected.

I could also sing praises of their (Five Star) service department in the way they accomodate us (always a BMW loaner, even before we bought a car from them), but I'll save that for another post.

I really feel for the BMW Enthusiast that has to suffer through a sub-standard dealer, I'm thankful we're not one of them.

Hennie Chung, BMW's Z4 product manager, reiterated today at the NY Auto Show that there are no plans for an MZ4 or Z4 coupe. The product managers were intentionally vague on other things, but this they answered with much certainty and no hesitation.

Take that for what it's worth.

I agree with the coupe part.
