transmission slipping - 84 528e

hi everyone! my 1984 528e has a slipping transmission.

haven't gotten it estimated yet.
with about 220,00 miles on the car, is it worth repairing? my plan was to restore it and keep it forever.
i have a great mechanic but they don't do transmissions. any recommendations for a tranny repair shop near hawthorne, ca? has anyone any experience with T1 Transmissions in Gardena?
