Hitch for 2008 x5

Anyone know how much a hitch would run for a 2008 x5? Just bought one on friday, I dont need it to tow anything its just for a bike rack.

do you have any pics of what it looks like? How much do you think shipping would be?

Factory hitch is incredibly well made, strenghtens the rear sub frame, and comes with the electrical kit that activates the towing mode in the tranny and the special braking program to stabilize a trailer. (I forget what it's called). Really really elegant for towing, but total overkill for a hitch mounted bike rack.

It's a marvelous piece of engineering but I think the suggested retail price is about $1,000 installed.

A couple weeks back somebody posted pics of a custom fabricated piece they use to carry their bikes inside their X5. Looked simple, costeffective, and obviously provided greater security than hanging the bikes off the rear.

Or you could go with one of the roof-rack mounted carriers.

And if you pay $1,150 for that, for another $350 the dealer will give you a matching ball and tongue set. One that gets inserted into the X5's rear, and one that gets inserted into your own rear!

What is the towing rating of your own rear?
