2009 Infiniti FX

Just saw this:

http://www.infiniti.com/allnewfx/

I think this competes with X5? (or maybe X6)

5L V8 or 3.5L V6. Design is a bit weird.

Looks pretty much the same as the old FX. Probably goes like Scat tho'. The early ones were very hard riding, even as bad as the X3, but the later years seemed to mellow out without losing any handling abilities. The new EX competes with the X3 so the FX probably competes with the X5/6, Cayenne, T-egg, and that ilk. Personally I like a low belt line, the EX/FX are too claustrophobic for me with their confined cockpit and high belt line.

Buyer decide which competes with which when they cross shop.

When I got my 2004, I cross shopped it with X5 3.0, the FX won IMO. MDX, ML, RX never crssed my mind!

Now Im in the market again, and the same applies. Im cross shopping both X5 and X6 with new FX. The BMWs are wining this time mainly on:
1) STYLE,
2) Potential performance #s (TT V6 gas or diesel NOT the current 3.0), and
3) The fact that at this point of time $10K difference, wont be as big of a factor as 4 years ago Im in my 30s!

Remember the MDX has been greatly improved, as has the Porsche Cayenne V6 which now is 295 hp and a $38,000. base sticker. Even the XC90 V8 Sport has improved over the plain jane version and performs like a different car. The point being there are a ton of vastly improved offerings in this segment, and what was true then is not the same now. Nice to have a plethora of choices!

And I thought they couldn't make the front end any uglier...

Porsche Cayenne $38k?

For MY2008, Porsche Cayenne V6's base price is $43k (manual) and $46k (steptronic). X5 3.0's base price is $46k (steptronic), so about the same. After adding options, Cayenne will cost a little bit more.

Awhile ago we were looking to replace our Tahoe with a new SUV and the Cayenne was a contendor. Likes the styling, loved the get up and go (even for a base model) but hated the maintenance concerns and the option prices. Right about that time the refreshed X5 appeared.... Like that one too but figured we'd jump into the Real Estate market and thus still have the Tahoe :-)

We did however, have the last MY FX over the holiday in Georgia. Rode well but you sit up so high... reminded me of my parent's old Plymouth Voyager.
