X5 TT 35i (Gas)... WHEN??

I am dieing to know IF and When BMW is going to release the X5 with this engine????

I've been searching multiple BMW forums and actually SENT BMWNA and email inquiring about this topic. They did not respond to my inquiry... Thanks a lot BMW... But I still love your cars.... It's starting to feel like an abusive relationship!!

The 4.8 has bad MPG's... bad driving range (I could live with it if it had a bigger tank)
The 3.0 is somewhat underpowered
The 3.0 sd ... well it sounds good, but I never drove diesel, and I'm not sure the availability of diesel stations? And it is coming this fall.... when exactly? I don't know!

On the other hand, the X6 35i looks very appealing, with the right engine, but I am hesitant about the 4 passenger thing. Why didn't they make it a regular 5???

I want an X5 35i... BMWNA are you listening???

According to a regular poster on another forum, BMW engineers at the Geneva Motor Show said quite emphatically that BMW has no plans at this time to put either of the twin-turbo gasoline engines in the X5 as they want to build differentiation between the X5 and the X6. Maybe in a year or two.

I read the same thing and it could be true. With the TT diesel, you get better performance that the 3.0 and better MPG's than the 4.8, similar to what you would expect from the TT 3.0 gas engine.
I guess I need to get over my mental issues with the diesel and get the X5 3.0 sd or my issues with 4 passengers and get the X6 35i.

Why can't life be perfect??

Nevertheless, I will be happy with either and it will be a good upgrade from my FX.

+1 Yeah. I feel the exact same way. X5 TT3.0 gas (with the ugly round exhaust tips replaced) would be my ideal. But I'm looking at the X6 and X5 diesel, right now.

Can't believe it. Think about this:

(for MY2007)BMW engineers at the Geneva Motor Show said quite emphatically that BMW has no plans at this time to put the twin-turbo gasoline engine in E90 as they want to build differentiation between the 3-series sedan and the coupe.

What do you think?

Comparing X5 to X6 is like comparing 3-sedan to 3-coupe, main-stream volume seller vs. stylish niche market product. Should BMW sacrifice its volume seller to make its niche market seller stand out?

The situation in X5 now is even worse. At that time, 330 was beated by several competitors (Lexus IS350 and Infiniti G35 with 300 hp or more), but it still ran faster in 0-60 than many (MB C350, Audi A4 3.2, Jaguar S-Type 3.0, ...). Even so, BMW decided to boost 330 to 335. Today X5 3.0si is almost the slowest 6-cylinder luxo SUV. Don't tell me it's powerful enough to you, I'm talking about competition. Even in the V8 sector, many others have surpassed X5 4.8 - ML550 with 382hp, upcoming FX50 with 390hp, ... I really don't understand why BMW wants to sacrifice the sales of X5, its No.3 volume seller, to support the sales of X6.

Should BMW differentiate the power putouts of e90 and e92? We know BMW was not that stupid. Should BMW make X6 stand out by sacrificing X5? I hope BMW is that sutpid!

Manufacturers often are. They'll limit one product, hoping to encourage people to buy a different, more expensive product. Or even a different, similarly expensive product.

For years the U.S. manufacturers convinced themselves that anyone interested in performance would buy a coupe, so there was no need to offer high-performance sedans.

End result is that many people end up buying a different product--from someone else.

Fully agree. If BMW wants to sacrifice X5 to promote X6, then many potential customers will end up buying a non-BMW SUV.

I think X6 is beautiful and sexy, but I really don't understand whom it is after. Those outdoor enthusiasts? Not enough space for a one-week ski trp to Vermont. Those sports car enthusiasts? They will buy 3/M3 or 6. X6's gravity center is too high, and its 4700lb mass is too heavy to any real sports-like manuver. Maybe I'm wrong, but its market has not been proved yet. Even proved as a success, I guess BMW probably will sell only a few thousand a year, a fraction of X5's 20-30k annual sales.
