99 740i - Replacement front shocks/struts

Hi Everyone,

I hope this question has been beat to death and there are just a few quick answers, but my front strut/shocks are leaking on my 1999 740i with 116,000 miles on it. Now, I'm not complaining. Actually, I'm hoping to improve my ride in all respects, but there seem to be few options. It seems - (from their own website) - that Bilstein made a duo shock, but they don't list it as available anymore. Their is a Bilstein sport shock available, but apparently not for a DSP controlled suspension. I put HD Bilsteins on my last ride (a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis that got rear ended - why I now drive a bimmer) and they made a marvelous upgrade. Please let me know your thoughts and experiences.

I have Bilstein Sport's on the front of my non-Sport 740iL.

DSC isn't a problem. Do you have EDC or self leveling suspension or something else that concerns you?

yeah, only issue would be if it has self leveling hydrolic suspension. otherwise, bilstein is great if you can afford them. you'll notice a wire on top of the front struts when you open the hood if it has a self leveling system. if not, traditional struts are used.

Self Leveling Suspension - DSC

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the information. Are these the wires (and missing on the other side) of a self leveling suspension? I can get the Bilstein Sports for about $270 each online but the self leveling shocks are like $870 each.
