How much to totally repaint an e39?

Let's say there's an e39 out there that I'm thinking I'd like to own, but hate the color (white). How much would it cost me to have the car professionally painted, say in something like topaz/le mans blue or maybe sterling gray? Would it be worth it to steal this car and invest in a repaint?

He wants white and hates every other bmw colors.

(i.e: Most bmw are silver or black)

I'd like to know this too. Using OEM paint at a top notch place. Mine was in a front end collision prior to me owning it, and the hood was repainted with something the quality of spraypaint...... the rest of the paint is in pretty sad condition too.

I'd like to repaint my Jet Black in the black metallic (I think Black Sapphire?).

eleventy thousand dollars. It'll change based on shop rates, location, quality of paint, amount of body work, etc. You can't relaly ask us blindly, our Dodge 3500 costed $600 for a full repaint, which was cheap.

Theres a BMW dealer around here that does their own body work. I'm thinking of calling them to find out what it cost. At the very least, I want my hood done, and maybe the rest will buff to a nice shine.

That's like asking how much for airfare. Economy, First Class or Gulfstream? You can go to Earl Scheib for a couple of hundred. Top end body shops are $5,000 and up. There is no upper end, depending on what you want.

My advice is find a car in the color you prefer; adding the price of the white car and the price of a decent paint job gives you some great options out there to find a nice one already the right color. Unless you just have to have a BMW in purple :-)).

it depends on where you go, i would expect 3k min. you are talkin about stripin all the hardware off, rejambing the the car, and met. cost a hell alot more to do. so wiegh the cost of repaint plus the car, and assumming there is no body work to be done, or the cost of just buying that is the color you want.

I get your guys' point. $3k-$5k is probably about the correct range for a nice paint job from a reputable outfit. More then I want to spend, but probably a fair price. I was hoping to find a way to buy Andy's white 540i M-sport and repaint it, but I just can't justify it.

That may be more reasonable as you don't have to worry about door jambs, the engine bay and so on as they are already black.

Hopefully. Either way a full repaint likely won't be happening unless my car gets keyed or something, because I don't see any way I can justify spending a few grand on it when I have so many other things to pay for.

No way. It doesn't seem like it was a huge accident. Somewhat significant, but not huge. Title is clear, though.

Not only that, I'm at college. Perhaps if I park *real* close to a nice car.....

JP. One can only wish through some random act of maliciousness that it happens. As much as I'd love to, I'd be waiting for karma to come bite me for trying to make it happen. I don't think my conscience would let me get away with that.... (damn conscience, I hate that thing sometimes....)

$50 comp. deductible FTW!

Imho

There is so much more to a car (esp an E-39) than just color, I would personally never buy on the basis of color - but that is individuality. I would check the overall condition, compression, take it for a ride, check the brakes, transmission (type and condition), oil, tires, body, battery, alternator, CARFAX history, prev owner, etc...way before I'd check color.

But, if color is what you are after, get it that way from the factory or a used one that is exactly the color you want. To get the paint 'right' will cost some BUCKS, the car will almost have to be disassembled, doors off and preped, hood off and preped, trunk lid off and preped, interior removed, engine removed, harnesses removed, etc...then resprayed and put back together. Unless you just want a 'cheap' job...in that case, UT OH better get MAACO, anyone that knows cars knows to peel the door seals to see if it has been repainted, look inside the engine compartment and inside the trunk...

IMHO don't do a chop job on such a beautiful car...there are those that prefer the white to any other color...maybe you need a new perspective. Take a look at some of the white ones some are damned nice.

Mine is Silver/gray some hate it ...I myself love it...but then again that is individuality.

GL dude and enjoy the process

Number one, why would anyone repaint an Alpine White e39 any other color? Alpine is one of the very best looking colors, and is fairly rare.

Number two, add to the cost of full repaint the fact that it will knock the $hit out of the resale value. Changing colors reduces it even further. It will be worth about the same as a salvage car.

Buy the alpine white and make it look like this:

The market on used BMWs is so soft right now its would be silly to buy a car and then have it repainted to a new color...I would look for a new car that was in the color and mileage range / condition that you want...when you repaint a car to a new color you are changing a lot...a real lot...door jambs, trunk lips, under the hood...there is a lot to prep and paint...my neighbor is a lead painter for one of the best body shops here in NO CA...I asked about repainting my car on the front end ...that's two fenders, hood and bumper...3K...that's about half do the car...so you can figure another 3 to 4K for the rest of the car...and that's just matching colors...changing requires a lot more work

I guess the pics speaks for itself

I'd like to be drivin that M5 regardless of color! It goes to show with just a little ingenuity just what one can accomplish. I mean Chief knew what it would take to make the white look absolutely Flawless and he did it tastefully. Nothing cheap, nothing 'to much', nothing gaudy. Complete class, nice drop nice wheels, tint etc. and a great job detailing.

Each car has it's own personality, regardless of color. You still may or may not like white. I myself find nothing but a good quality tastefully built automobile in this car. And I myself LIKE IT! that is it.

LOL
