I broke my driver's side mirror!!

i was pulling out of an apartment complex and the parking stalls have stupid polls that are hard to see! well anyways i was slowly reversing out and you know with the park distance control in the 7 makes you kind of lazy so you don't really pay attention to anything else but the noise or screen, then suddenly CRACk! ! my drivers side mirror snaps off!!
well i was wondering how much do they cost i looked around and only get quotes on just the glass.. It just looks like it broke the ceramic metal part is there any way i can just replace that or do i have to replace the whole mirror assembly?

this is when the folding mirrors come in handy.... I remember other members saying it was a stupid mod back when someone asked if it could be done to the earlier 7's

folding sideviews i think are only good if you park on the street and you dont want anyone htting them...
-in this members case i think it was carelessness (happens to everyone)...

Sorry to hear. I know the feeling well. I had to have my driver side mirror and glass replaced after a minor accident ripped it off my car last year. Here were the costs for parts as shown my body shop bill:

left mirror assembly $645 (power folding)
left mirror glass $305 (self-dimming)

I don't think removing the old one and putting on the new one are all that time-intensive and can probably be done at the dealership, especially if your colored plastic trim piece is undamaged.

Yes - That's the one that was $645 in my repair. The thin metal part of that fixture that attached the mirror to the door was broken. It looked to me like it was designed to do that in an accident. The thinest part of the housing broke quite cleanly, leaving the whole mirror assembly dangling by its power cable.

My mirrors are power folding (or, rather, power "pivoting") so I'm sure that made the replacement part more costly. If yours aren't power folding then I'm sure it's less. Try RealOEM dot com. Pretty easy to navigate and you can use that info to find dealer prices. Good luck.

Does the driver's side mirror on the outside tilt down when you put it in REVERSE or is it just the passenger's side that does that only?

ouch man that sucks but at least it all worked out! Someone clipped my driver side mirror at school and left it just dangling there, had it fixed through insurance. Total repair bill was 1200.

must admitt ! i was alarmed at how much a mirror glass is , even with with my trade discount ! the passenger mirror on mine was all off kimbo when i got mine so one Sunday while valeting i ( as you do ) was poking around when the whole thing fell off !! After closer inspection i found where it had previously been bodged back on! i got some industrial epoxy for use with metal and bonded it back in place ! looks as good as new ! only downer is i can use the electric pivoting motion due to where it had to be bonded !

Broken Passenger Mirror

Well I've done the same thing. Anybody repair it themselves? Have the whole thing but not sure yet how damaged it is.

Depending on the mirror you have, it can be quite expensive. If you have the self-dimming, heated mirrors with all the other junk besides the power motor for them, it's probably 1K at the dealer for it installed.

Folding mirror question

Hi guys, I am a new BMW owner, 2006 750LI....so please don't kill me for asking. How would I know if my mirrors are power folding? I have not noticed any control for that, but I am learning new stuff all of the time.

Thanks again for being gentle

There should be a square button to press, next to the switch to control the left or right mirror for adjustment. Press that square button and it will fold up. Press it again and it goes back down. I call these "Lambo mirrors".

If I'm not mistaken that feature was added until the 2007 models :-(

I just found your post about replacing the glass on your side view mirrors. Do you know if there is something on the web that shows how to do this? My mirrors are not heated and do not rotate so this should be simple. I found one website that says to use a heat source (propane torch or blow dryer. I am not taking any torch to my car) to remove the mirror from the base. Then the new glass can be glued to the base.

Were you able to remove the glass an base from your mirror assembly?
