What's the correct oil capacity of a 1992 525i?

Does anyone know the oil capacity of a 1992 525i? I'm changing the oil myself, and want to be sure that I am replacing it with the right amount. Also, what type of oil is best for this type of Bimmer?

You should be able to get close to 1.5 gal (6Qt) but you should check as you are filling incase you have sludge buildup or anything else that might cause the level to end up higher.
15W40

The filling capacity is 6.7qts, but you cant get every drop of oil out of engine before refilling, so buy 7qts of oil.

BimmerDotInfo - Any reason to use 15w40? I use 0w30 in my m50.

15W40 is what the manual recomends. It has never given me any problems. I do not see any big problem with running 0W30 but if i was going to switch to a 0Wxx type oil I would use 0W40.

Thanks for posting the exact capacity. I couldnt remember what it was off hand.

Ah, i see. I ran 0w30 because that was what was used in my old m44 by the previous owners so i decided to use it in my m50. So far, so good.

6 quarts of oil.
Depending on your temps you can use 15w40 or 20w 50. It has been too warm here for 10w40 for a month now.
