Hotel Room Perk Prices

Okay, just got to Gulfport for a class. Staying at the Grand Casino Oasis Hotel & Spa. $59 a night (paid for by Uncle Sam ), but they get you on everything else. 10 dollars for a payperview movie. Thats only a regular movie. I'm afraid to check out what the "EROTICA" costs? They have a WebTV setup - 6 dollars for 2 hours or 10 for 24 hours. A buck for a local call. (That is the route I took with a free AOL account.) AOL SUCKS, but it is free. I got a sandwich and a coke when I got in at the coffee house inside the
hotel. 7 bucks.....aggghhhhhhh. Also, 15 cable channels......No Fox News, No most anything....Well, I guess I can go gamble...

Thanks for reminding me - no DSL or cable available in my area, so I'm still on dial-up...

Don't rub it in! Well, at least Adelphia started installing digital cable this week, but it might take a couple of months or more until service is activated...

Casinos are notorious when it comes to lousy room perks. They don't want you in the room.. they want you on the casino floor!

No, I live in the suburbs of L.A., but I am too far from the local SBC Central Office to get DSL (by about 1,500 feet), and the local cable company does not offer internet yet. I don't feel like paying $150 per month (on top of the $500 install fee) for a partial T-1 line.

Try satellite based broadband. You will get 1.5mb/s download but only 56K upload. If you don't upload a lot of stuff this may work best.

Will still tie up a phone line though. At least you can browse B'fest really fast.

I looked into it. The people at DirecTV don't know their head from their @ss when it comes to satellite internet service, otherwise it would have been very convenient since I already have DirecTV - but the equipment cost is pretty messed up too, over $500 last time I checked. Same problem with Earthlink's satellite internet access... Unless you know of another route.
