135i Race Car Project Thread

Hi All -

Cal Speedway was awesome! On May 31st, Ralph Warren set a new H-Stock track record with a 1:55.250

Yep - we had a great time, but someone noted that my car now smells a little like a barnyard

After racing at Cal Speeday a couple of weeks ago, nothing like winding down with a fun public appearance.

Here it is at SPOCOM at the Long Beach Convention Center (part of the Nitto Tire display)

My sister just bought. I love that new 135i I am debating myself on what to buy this week. Looking at the new M3's this week along with some Porsches too.

For the money, the car packs quite a little punch (especially with some software). If the car is large enough, then I think it's a good car. Keep in mind, I've driven one coast to coast and it did just fine

Alright, enough of models and magazines - let's get to what you guys really care about. How the 135i is doing on the track (especially compared to old benchmarks like the '95 e36 M3 ltw's)

We did the BMW club race at Thunderhill (great track BTW) up in Willows, Ca. on Aug. 8/9. It was a little on the warm side (temps in the 90s), which are not ideal for going after track records, but Ralph was able to get new H-Stock track records for both the Cyclone and Bypass configurations.

New on the car this time were some little splitters on the front bumper, e92 M3 front sway bar and Hawk DTC 60/70 pads.

Hi All -

With Road Atlanta coming up at the end of September, we've started getting ready.

Picked up a little track trailer back in July. We cleaned up the wiring, powder-coated the uprights on the wheel rack, cleaned the trailer up a little, new taillights, some DOT reflective paint, some eyebolts around the edge for tying down to, a spare tire mount on the tounge and a spare tire, some saftey chains and painted the wheels with silver wheel paint. I think it's ready to roll!

That's a sweet looking little set up!

Wow Scott, on e46fanatics I saw the entire thread on your race E46 and excellent work there. CONGRATS on the 135 project and congrats on the debut in the Bimmer magazine or the Roundel, can't remember which Keep it up!

Thanks, we try to do a good job. The 135i was in the Roundel last year and Bimmer this year. Don't know what the next project will be, but we've got a few in mind.

Kind of in a holding pattern waiting/preparing for next races. Next race is at Buttonwillow on Sept. 19/20

Sorry about taking so long to get to this question - didn't see it at first.

We did have the problem initially, and then we got the Dinan oil cooler kit and TOTAL racing oil and that solves the problem unless we get into really warm weather. Then we have to turn on the heater full blast.

Finally got our pics from Road Atlanta. RA was an awesome track as Ralph broke the old class track record by about a half second a lap

scott, the car looks great on the track. Nice to see someone build a race car out of the 135i. The car has a ton of potential and I am sure we will see more and more people doing the same thing in the near future.

Thanks - it had a good year in 2009 with wins at O'fest, 6 track records and winning the national championship.

I have heard rumors of possibly seeing 135s competing in Grand Am Cup GS or Speed World Challenge one day.

Thanks - working on some little changes here and there on the car this year, so we'll keep everyone posted on how they go. Stuff like:

Experimenting with shocks and springs
Titanium brake pad shims

great project. the car looks very smooth.

One thing we've tried this year is our attempt at rear sway bar improvement



We're also using Titanium brake pad backing shims from Ti Speed:

We also raced in Cal Speedway in May







And of course, we were at Bimmerfest 2010
