I didn't know the X5 came with a standard alarm and Homelink

Maybe it's just 2003 models, but my business partner's X5 3.0 came standard with Homelink, the alarm, and a pretty well equipped OBC (has no nav, but he gets limit alarm, aux ventilation, Consumpt.1 + 2, Trip, ETA, etc.).

For a base X5, it's pretty well appointed. It was a good thing I didn't talk him into buying an alarm for his car, or he'd be pretty bitter at me.

A "Base" X5 will run you $45,000 out the door. The Homelink maybe costs BMW $50, and the alarm another $150...

An E39 runs about that much and I don't think either are standard?

Of course, I think all the models should get stuff like that standard, or at least bundled with a package.

E46s and E85s are the only BMWs without alarms standard.

Homelink has always come in the X5 and I believe its in the E39 as well. Not sure about the E65.

Homelink does not come standard in the E39's (at least MY 2001). I installed one for my Dad last year for Father's Day.

UGDO is available in a package (PP?) on E39s.

As model years are on the market, they get more standard options. My dad's '99 E39 did not have Homelink, but his '02 does. I know our '03 X5 has it, but I wonder if they did in '01?

X5's have always had it. My moms friend has it in her '01 4.4i, and I know alot of other early models that have it.

All X5's have alarm and homelink standard.

Also gets a power steering wheel tilt/telescope function that is pretty slick as well!

Even on the 2003 e39s you still have to order the Premium pkg to get homelink and the trip computer. Most e39s have this pkg, so it will seem like these items are standard-- but they're really not.

I was thrilled with all the features that came "standard", plus the ones that came with the packages. I really only wanted the moonroof from the premium package, but will force myself to enjoy the rest.

Of course, I'm getting really spoiled - I can no longer be bothered to turn my own lights on (or off) and while I originally thought rain-sensing wipers were really dumb, I've totally changed my mind.

I think within the next month or so we'll be adding the Homelink to my husband's 2001 330i - it's a lot nicer than the clunky remote (which he doesn't like cluttering up his visor).

Tell me about it! I drove a rental car over the weekend and could not wait to get back home and drive my X!! You take those little conveniences for granted and only realize it when they aren't there!
