Oil-Change Frequency

I know I know. Some like to change their oil every 3k, 5k, 7.5k, or a little more or less.
But how about frequency? How long does the Synthetic oil last? I haven't been putting on too many miles lately and I'm at my "6-month time" with only 2000-miles since the oil was last changed.

Should I still change it at 6-months? Or just wait a year ? Does it matter?

NEVER let oil sit in a car for more than a year's time at MOST. The mileage does not matter as much as the time does. Follow the recommended maintenance schedule but never let the oil sit in there for more than 12 months.

I ALWAYS change my oil annually, no matter how many miles are driven during that year. I average 3-5k miles per year, and even though the BMW synthetic oil should last for 15k miles, it doesn't matter to me. I'd never drive that many miles between oil changes anyway!!!!

Despite what people think i dont think that it matters how long it sits?? Alot of this stuff sits around for years before its used. I would say with a good synthetic between 5-7k miles, On my vette I change it every 3k miles.with synthetic, but I dont drive it alot.

BMW will perform a no cost "low mileage" oil change annually under the 4 year/50,000 mile service plan at no charge even if the indicator says there are still many miles until the service is due. The service indicator should not be reset since the oil change is only part of the service process.
