External hard drive configuration help!
I'm trying to add a new 120GB HDD as an external drive. I've bought an enclosure (USB and Firewire) and cannot access the drive in Win2k. When looking at disk management I see the drive but it's listed as unallocated. I'm not able to create any partitions.
I've tried configuring the drive as master, slave, cable select, and single. No difference. Do I need to set this drive up first on my home PC, partition it, then transfer it to the enclosure? Do you think Partition Magic will be able to configure the drive in the enlosure w/out moving to my home PC? EDIT: The HDD and enclosure were purchased seperately.

If you can see the drive in Disk Management, I would think you would be able to create partitions and format... Unformatted space is always listed as unacllocated. Is it grayed out or something?

Wound up taking the drive upstairs and allocating and partitioning on the wife's PC. It's in the enclosure now and working perfectly.
