New Camera!

Sunny, thanks again for your input/opinion you gave me a while back. With about 7 weeks till The Little One gets here, it was time to pull the trigger! I've included a couple of recent pics from my trip last month that I took w/ my point & shoot.(Canon SD630) They're just pics of a sunset but I think they came out ok. Hopefully w/the D80 & some practice the pics w/ improve!

Nice, too bad it's a Nikon, jk. (I'm a Canon person, grrr) I have to admit Nikon did a great job on the D80 bodies and they feel really nice in the hand. What lenses did you get?

no problem Imola i like the third picture. put the camera in "M" and play with all the settings. you'll be a pro in no time.

Ain't nothing wrong with Nikon! Or Canon or Oly. Camera is only as good as the glass.

so I got the Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR(shock/anti-vibration) & a Quantaray 55-200mm plus 6 Nikon photography classes(couldn't hurt since they're free) an HP printer(will be re-gifted) free photo paper,nikon advanced dvd, & a few other things you can find on the site for $900. A little pricey, so I'm going to have to make it worth my while! Sorry Sunny but, does anyone need a wedding photographer?

Thanks! Actually that pic was w/ manual. All the photos I took w/ Manual. I just played around w/ the app, iSO, AWB, colors, & exposure just to see what happens. A lot of hit and miss-mostly misses, but very fun! Sunny, you're very right about the person taking the pics. Give 2 people the same camera, 1 a novice the other a photog, you'll end up w/ a snapshot & a picture.

Seriously though, I really plan on taking my hobby serious. I want to take pics not snaps! The great thing about digital is that it doesn't cost me a dime to practice! Back in the day it was too expensive to buy film & develop garbage. If you didn't have a darkroom, you'd have to pay someone to develop it...all the while not knowing w/ to expect.

Imola, sounds like a fun trip. Take those trips why you can! We got two little ones and as much as I enjoy watching the smiles on their face, its been difficult finding places to visit that is fun for everyone.

That's why we took this last trip. I know life is going to be changing in the next couple of months! Its been a blessing that my wife & I have been able to enjoy 15 years together(5 married) & now we're excited to share our world w/ The Little One! We usually take 2 trips a & about 5-6 getaways(long weekends) a year, or shall I say we "used to." All that means is, like you 745, we'll have to find some new spots.

aaaah, the good times, enjoy it while you can :-)

Nice choice on the D80. I've had mine for about a year now and absolutely love it. I got the 70-300VR lens for shooting action shots during my down time at HPDEs. Here's one of my latest captures...



Right out of the camera, no post processing other than to save it as a JPG.

Having a baby is no excuse, get some images posted already!

Hopefully next week. The whip needs a bath, plus I need to put it in the shop-sunroof & brakes are squeaking. While its in there, I'm finally having the Aib's & fogs installed. I spoke w/ the tech & he said he'd do it for a Franklin.
Nice pic, Strtwyz! What camera are you working with?

Guess I can wait til then, Imola. Be sure to snap before and after pics of the AIB's!

My weapon of choice is Olympus' E-330 slr with an articulating view finder. Most if my subject shots are of cars. Or up skirts! LOL! The articulating view finder avoids me laying on the ground or using a step stool.

Also had to have a wide angle for them closed quarters. Opted for an 11-22 because Oly's deeper wide (7-14) was 14-hundough.
