yep, the hole is already pre-cut in the seatback, so you just have to punch out the tabs holding it. but you'll also need to cut a hole in the seat cushion itself, which can be kinda messy.

do a search on e46fanatics ice forum; there were a few ppl who had done it to port a sub through to the cabin.

well, i wasnt looking to do this for stereo purposes... just seeing if the armrest in the back bench allowed for a trunk passthrough... like if i needed to fit my snowboard in, i could use it to store it in the car... i know the fold-down seat option has it... but i dont want to pay for all the seats to fold... just if there is the passsthrough for the armrest... sorry if i wasnt clear for its purpose...

do you use step-in or strap-in bindings... the pass through won't work for the strap-ins if your board is 156 like mine or longer. I have burton customs and they just don't allow enough of the board to slide in to the trunk b/c of the binding placement.

I've always preferred straps but i might switch to step-ins for this reason. (I have cwp and fold down seats) i usually just put the seat down but i tried using the pass-through once.

I just checked and my 330i without the folding rear seat option has the armrest that you can fold down.

When you fold it down, there is a peice of material (Leather or vinyl) that is attached on one end and velco on the other creating a flap . . . you can pull the flap down very easily and it reveals a plastic peice that looks like it might be possible to cut out

I really can't tell but if you want I can look in the trunk later to see what is on that side of it

mine is a 165 burton with step ins... does anyone happen to have pics of their rear seat without the folding seat option? maybe that would help me answer my questions better...

I just took a look and it looks like it is something that can be done.

When in the trunk and I look towards the back seat, there is the trunk liner(carpet type of material), behind that trunk liner there is a plastic peice that looks like it is pre-cut and looks like it can make a pass through.

When looking in the back seat armrest, there is a flap, after moving the flap there is some material that looks pre-cut also . . .

Bascially it looks like you can make a pass through but it would require some work because you would have to make a door for the pass through and you would have to make a hole in the trunkliner and a few other things . . .

I'm not postive it can be done but it sure looks that way . . .

I would take some pics but my both sets of rechargable batteries are dead and my battery charger was lent to someone plus I have no AA batteries at home. If I can find some I will try to post some pics in a day or two . . .

Let me know if you want me to . . .

Is there a fold down armrest if you don't have the fold down rear seats? I didn't think there was. I thought, with the 325i at least that there was no arm rest.

If you push up on the back seats the seats come undone, and then on the left side upper section, you can pull out and push up and the seat panel will come off. Behind that you will see a section where you can feed wires or whatever you want through to the trunk. I will post pics if you like.

dmd, im looking to pass more than wires... as i posted earlier, snowboards and long items such as that... im not the type to tear apart a back seat to pass stuff through also... just hoping that there was the pass through that most sedans have...

Oh, my bad...you could look into seeing if it is possible to change your seats to the one's that come in the winter package, they have a ski pass through....Not sure how important it is to you to carry such items. Or you could always just get a roof rack.

I'm not sure about the 325i but my 330i doesn't have the fold down seat but it does have a center rear armrest. . . you might be right, the 325 might not have one . . .

According to the 2003 brochure, fold down rear seats with the armrest is an option on all of them. There is no mention of the armrest without the fold down seats.

AF330i, do you have the CWP with your car? In that case, the fold down seats with armrest come with tha package. A long shot, but maybe you have fold down seats without knowing it?

lol . . . imagine if I did . . . nah I don't have the CWP or the Fold down rear seats, I know exactly what the fold downs look like since I had them on my last car (a 2001 330Ci) and intentionally did not order them this time around.

That is strange that they don't mention it in any brochure . . . maybe it's listed on the BMWNA website
