Any information helps (X5 Front Differential)

So I'm New to this website but here is what's going on. I have an 03 x5 3.0. I was swapping out my axles which for the most part should be an easy job. The old axles came out as they should with no fuss. I tried to put the right replacement axle in, and it clicked in but would not go all the way in. There is about an inch left to get the axle in all the way and it will not budge. It will not go in any further and it will not come out either. We have tried everything from finnessing it out to trying to shock it out. I have confirmed that the axle is in the differential. I think the c clip on the axle locked on something in the differential and won't give. Now I am considering opening up the front differential, separating the gears to see if I can get the axle out from the inside. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have only seen one image of a front differential taken apart (see image below), but from the image I have seen online it looks like it's just a few bolts and voila! Does anyone have any experience with either a stuck aftermarket axle or taking apart a differential? I would appreciate all the information I can get.Thank you.

Don't open the diff, it is a tough job and not necessary.

Have you checked the new axles against the old axles to be sure they are the same?
