E90/E91/E92/E93 OEM Spare Tire source

yes, running different sizes across axles it can. but the outside diameter of all the wheels you list should be the same.

the spare tire is for TEMP use only.

the E60 XI model that this is normally equipped on can have either 225/50/17 (25.9") or 245/40/18 (25.7") tires. the temp spare runs at 25.5"

although i make no guarentees, you should have no problems running the spare for a short period of time.

a 25.5" tire does 820 revs per mile.
a 225/45/17" tire does 837 revs per mile
2.1% difference, which should not present a problem for short term use.

One more question. The 18" come with staggered wheels/tires: 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear. Will the spare work on both front and rear?

yes, there are no changes made between cars with 16-19" wheels, the tire aspect ratio is altered to make the rolling diameter consistent.

for an E9x, its about 25.1" across 16-19" wheels.

thanks for all ur hard work. as my RFT are wearing down have started to shop for an all season tire set up for my 2008 335xi. cant wait for the smoother ride.
i read thru this thread and couldn't find where u tried to mount this donut spare to the roof of the trunk. how did you make out w/ that ?

i tried to lash it to the roof via a ratcheting nylon strap. took up too much space so it went back into the corner of the trunk.

I placed my order and the next day I was informed "on national backorder". What kind of delay are we talking about guys? Hope it's not too long I can't imagine driving a non-run flat without a spare!!

I ordered one from Tischer on 11/25/08 and didn't receive it until last week.

even though your car has 16s, yes, it should fit, as the rolling diameter is the same, and your brakes are smaller than the 335i's.

Here is what I want from BMW... a small temporary aluminum spare. My Porsche Boxster has a lightweight aluminum wheel with a small temp tire (size 105/95-17) that weighs just 21 pounds (all inclusive!). It is about 5-inches thick and uses 60 psi of air...

BMW could make an 18" version that would fit all of their E90/E91/E92/E93 models... and the E60 5 Series, if I am not mistaken.

unfortunately, its blocked from US dealers to order. i've tried, and they cannot order it.

that one would be about the same dimensions as the porsche wheel you describe, about 4.5" thick, and lighter.

no idea.. it doesnt come up on the regular parts lists... side note i actually picked up an extended use spare recently, for longer than 100 mile trips, i have a rial salerno 17X8 with a Goodyear Eagle GT 235/45/17. for long trips i take the emergency spare outta my trunk and swap it for the full tire. i'm paranoid living in nyc
