Mein Auto: A car.
In the radio world that would be called a "rubber duck" antenna. I prefer the stock meself for better reception.

Me too. Both of the BMW ones look good.
Will test them in the valley.

The stock antenna is 16 inches long so I'm guessing this one is 11 inches.
I finally went with the 7 inch flexible Honda S2000 antenna that provides good reception even with HD FM.

Mein Auto: Lots of different stuff
Sometimes I run the long one, sometimes I run the short one.

I probably need to find something productive to do with my time.

Ditto, except my short one is the stock one and my long one is 31". I have the latter on the car right now, Randy was making fun of it last night. I like it because it lets me get a clean signal from my favorite public FM station when I'm 50 miles away.

No, the base is actually thinner than the stock antenna and the whole thing is black. It does replicate the RC car look though. I have a collapsible 31" too, but it doesn't fit quite right.

I run a 3", but I never listen to AM (on the rare occasions I listen to anything) so it's been no problem.

Its all about how short it is

BTW, the VW antenna is the same design and size and my friend broke his at Pocono this past Sunday going 140 mph in his R32, so I took mine out for the event as I was hitting 148-153 mph.

S2000 antenna- good idea! Is that special order from Honda or can you get it from the parts counter (in-stock item)?

Thanks-

Picked up a S2000 antenna today at a nearby Honda dealer. Total cost was around $28 with sales tax.

I've tried to see if I can find a better deal on the internet...but the s&h charges most place want usually turn the deals sour...so I opt to buy from a local instead.

The antenna is fairly short, 5~6 inches long judging by my two eye balls.

Just need to have the car here already

I saw this post and just picked up a Brand New OEM Honda S2000 Short Antenna still in packaging for $22 shipped.

I had a 3" one from eBay (don't remember the manufacturer), broke it off when washing my car one day and never replaced it. Bottom line, I have NO antenna for about a year now and I've almost never had a reception problem. I personally like the look of it with nothing but the stubby base that's attached to the car and the very minor loss of reception I may be getting doesn't really bother me.

As if there is much on the radio in San Diego...well, besides the majority of stations in Spanish....I prefer a Compact Antennae as well. It can be a bit of a problem in Houston though. Land area from the suburbs considered in the Houston Area on the west side of town, to the east side of town is about 60 miles. Even with the OEM Antennae some stations receive a bit of static. Did not want to go too short, or leave it to tall. Hopefully this will be a nice compromise. Must be nice to have that Z4 in the San Diego area. I spent a month out there about a year ago. Absolutely beautiful place to live!

Wow, there are people who still listen to FM radio. That's cool. I haven't listened to anything in my car other than Sirius or Ipod for so long that I don't even remember what the local stations are. I don't think I ever set the preset buttons on the radio. The incessant advertisements became intolerable.
