Glove Box Lock Replacement

I need to remove the lock in the glove box latch in my 1997 528i and replace it with a new one. Any instructions on how to remove and replace the lock?

I can open the glove box. I have removed the entire latch from the glovebox but need to remove the broken lock cylinder from the latch/handle and replace it with a new one.

Glove Box Lock replacement

I am in the same boat. Couldn't open my glovebox on my 2006 325 ci. I removed the screws holding the axel, and created enough play to release the latch. I took the outer latch and the inner latch apart to find the white plastic "nib" for lack of a better word to describe it, had broken off. This little piece of plastic pushes the sliding mechanism which in turn causes the catch to move in and out, allowing the release to open the glove box. I also screwed up and accidentally pulled off the wires which power the motor inside the latch. I soldered them back , and melted the plastic that holds the tabs they connect to.
Long story not so short, I ordered a new outer and inner latch for freaking 150.00
Now that I am done explaining that I botched this one, the thing I need help with is, how do you get the lock cylinder out of the latch? It is attached to a white plastic cap of sorts, which doesn't appera to want to come apart. I am afraid I will break something else, and have to buy a new lock cylinder and that's another 50.00 bucks. Can anyone help me?
By the way, so you know I am not a total screw up, I successfully replaced the CCV in my 2001 525i Sport Wagon. It runs smooth as silk now, after a very rough idle, and problem with stalling out. I cleaned the Idle Control Valve, the throttle body, the MAF and the car is ready for another 175,000 miles.
