325xi transfer case oil change

I accidentally drained the transfer case during an attempted oil change. How do I refill it and what fluid do I use? My car is a 2004 325xi.

The original fill for the transfer case was/is MTF-LT1 P/N 83-22-9-408-942. Which is the EXACT same original fill fluid as the manual tranmissions.

It has been determined by curiosity seekers through oil analyses that MTF-LT1 was/is roughly a 75w80 GL4 gear oil. With the transfer case on the XIs being totally gear driven is why BMW elected to kill two birds with one stone so to speak...

Now whether D4ATF or Redline MTL is the better/more appropriate fluid..... that is a debate that has been going on for over 10 years now. In any case whether its the D4ATF or a Manual transmission fluid it is far better to swap it out for one or the other than to not change it at all.

Personally I went with the Redline MTF. Hope this helps.

The t-case is in the middle of the car, while the engine is in the front. Are your sure it wasn't the front differential instead?
