iPod interface installation DIY
Here's some pics of the install. I think they are pretty self explanatory except that the CD-Changer screws don't come out. They just loosen and then permits you to pull the unit out. I fixed the iPod interface with the supplied cable ties. No drilling no nothing. Plug n Play.

SWEET!!! so i'm a big fan of www.pandora.com, which also has an app for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I thought to myself.. shouldn't the app put out the audio too through the interface? then I started thinking probably not bc the iPod interface works in conjunction with the mp3's etc. well no other way to find out than to try. so i hooked up the iPhone and it starts playing my mp3 songs. i went to the home screen hit pandora. It opened and sure enough I started listening to pandora over the car audio via the iPhone and iPod interface

Nice job! Did you need to bring the car to the dealer to get this working?

So, here is the deal.I called my dealer and asked him if he would program my installed I Pod Attachment for free. He said its about 1 hour flat for our mechanic to program that and that is not a free service. Which means I would have to pay for one hour of labor...
I remember readin here somewhere that this is an essential free service (the programming) that BMW would obviously reimburse them for...is that correct or not? |

You are correct. They should do it for free! PM me with your email address and i'll send you the original BMW bulletin that enables you to have it done for free. Just show them that and they'll do it for free guaranteed! I'll also send along the original BMW install instructions for the interface.

ok so i got the faceplate today and it doesn't quite fit bc the interface sticks out too far if you mount it with the supplied cable ties... back to the drawing board
i'll make it fit and post pics later |

OEM Vs. Pandora
I own a 2007 650i, Convertible, with Sport Package, NAV, and the BMW OEM iPOD cable option.
I don't use the integrated telephone option as I tried that on my 2004 650i Coupe and for 2k, I can think of other much more practical things I'd like to do, so I just use the Bluetooth option for my mobile phone. My problem with the OEM iPOD cable seems to be a limitation on how many songs that it can handle. Does the Pandora product alleviate this problem and if I've already got the BMW factory option does it make it easier to install the Pandora? How much is the Pandora option and where can I get it? I HATE the BMW OEM iPOD cable option! i LOVE everything else about my 6! |

Pandora is a streaming "service" I believe the OP was using an iPhone to stream this service to his car. I believe the limitation is 255 items per playlist.

Didn't a recent I-Drive update lifted this limitation? or is that display wise? |

![]() I will say that the 2008 USB version in my 535i is much better than the "older" CD Changer interface Honestly though.. I haven't felt that there were any "huge" limitations in the "older" interface. There are a few little pesky things, but no deal breakers that would push me back to a CD Changer.
