Sirius antenna permenent mount?
I have the Sirius antenna installed on my rear shelf using one of the car seat anchor mounts. However, like others have reported the reception is spotty in wooded areas and every overpass gets a dropout. I would like to move the antenna outside but the thought of a magnet scratching up the paint bugs me. I know drilling a hole sounds crazy but atleast the thing will stay still! I have an alpine white M3 so I wouldn't have to paint either antenna. Has anyone done this? am I crazy?

Our kits we simply use the padded magnet on the leading edge of the trunk. This has never been an issue for us in terms of reception and ease of install.

Honestly those antennas stay put pretty well due to a very strong magnet. I have a magnet antenna and it hasn't moved since I stuck it on. If you make sure the surface where you are placing it is clean, I can't imagine that there would be anything that would allow it to have much mobility.

Searched and found this thread to ask this question in.
I have an 09 E92 w/o OEM Sirius module. I'm going to order a Stratus 6 Radio and a Proclip console mount to save me the quoted install by the dealer ($1,000 to $1,200). On my E46 I mounted the aftermarket Sirius antenna on a length of strip steel that I bolted to one of the child safety retainers on the rear window deck. Then the Sirius antenna just stuck to that. On the E92, there are two plastic upper tether brackets on the deck. Before I slip a plastic knife under the trim, does anyone know if this plastic bracket pops off, and whether there is a bolt suitable for holding a similar length of strip steel under it? TIA |
