E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Valve clearance for M10 engine?

I've been searching to find the clearance for the M10 engine, all articles are for the M20's. Does anyone know the spec for the valve clearance on the M10 to do a valve adjustment? Cold spec would be preferable.

Well, considering I haven't been able to find the info anywhere else and you're the first responder, I can wait. Much appreciated. I need to order a new valve cover gasket before I do the task anyway.

0.010 of an inch cold, done intake to exhaust in firing order.

Thanks! Though, are you certain it's inches? I thought BMW listed specs in millimeters?

I did mine using those specs and it clattered too much-the feeler moving easily under the rocker but with no play. Readjusted it tighter, where I had to pull and wiggle the feeler out after tightening. It's wicked smooth and quieter than ever. The actual specifications for the M10 are as follows:
0.20 mm
or
0.008 in.

It said 0.010 in the book. I liked mine a little tighter on the M20 myself personally also.

The original owners manual specifies the clearance to 0.008 in. for the 318i and 0.010 for the 325e; the original owners hit's on both models.
This is one error I found in Bentley. I used both specifications and found the original manuals specs to be quieter, no chatter at all, yet not tight. I think if you have chatter it's wrong, the valves won't open to the maximum.
